I wish I had listened to the previous posters. I have always taught myself but this class.......Babler is ridiculous. His teaching? LOL- does he even teach? Ask him a question. LOL- dont bother! MCAT readiness- Sure if you wanna score in the 20s. Only one reason to take him:his grading scale is decent but to make up for it he does not give out A-s.

Dr. Babler is very approachable & a very intelligent man. As a consequence, he can't really "dumb down " concepts to students. His first exam is easy and they gradually become more difficult and you must rely heavily on his review packets and the textbook for support. His grading scale is the only reason why students take his class.

BOGUS! If you're fine with not learning anything and just getting an A by cheating your way through like the majority of the class--this class is for you! Beware, he separates people on the final so basically everyone fails since you cant cheat anymore. Also, youre REALLY screwed for the MCATs and even with cheating its not easy to get an A

I have never gotten a B+ in my life until I took him. Usually if the professor is bad you just use the textbook and do well on exams and vice versa. With Babler, he won't even answer the question: where is your office. He doesnt teach! and on the exams there's stuff that DOESNT EVEN EXIST IN THE BOOK!!! the first exam is easy n downhill from there

If you're fine with reading the book by yourself and not having anyone actually teach the material to you, take him. The only good thing about him is that his grading scale makes it easier to pass the class. People who took better teachers the next semester failed because he didn't prepare them well enough. Do not take him.

The material is not easy and you have to spend a lot of time learning the material yourself. He doesn't teach well and he's dismissive of questions. However, he's pretty clear as to what will be on the test, doesn't test reactions, and his curve (80=A) helps a lot. Among the OChem profs available at Loyola, I think he's the one to take.

Not bad. For reactions, he just doesn't teach well so you have to learn it all from the book and go back to the handouts to find out what they're saying. Make sure you know everything in the handouts. He unfortunately is dismissive in addressing student questions that are difficult to explain (just says some people just can't get this stuff).

He's a great guy, he's very intelligent, but he is by no means a good professor. He goes on so many tangents that it is very difficult to take note of whats important and what isn't. He's very approachable, and his grading scale is extremely forgiving which are the only good things about his class. Be prepared to read the book a lot.

Dr. Babler is one of the nicest and most intelligent professors I know. He is willing to stay after class to help his students and is always interested in helping them. Make sure you memorize the handout packets and go to the discussion (especially the ones before the test, he goes over last years exam).

tip: Do your homework, know the handout inside and out, then study the rxns on the handout that is NOT in the hw thoroughly because it tends to be on test. Go to discussion before exam and focus on those types of questions to prepare for exam. Keep up with lecture-1/3 of the exam will be on the "new" materials covered recently. awesome lecturer.

The man is a genius. He tends to babble some but is great at lecture and does a lot to help you learn and understand certain topics. He is very knowledgable and knows not only the compounds he lectures with but the history of them as well. In the past he taught non-majors and wasn't as liked as he is now with the majors, manly because his lectures

Organic is a hard class no matter who you get for a teacher but Babler is one of the most brilliant professors I have yet to meet. For all you chem majors out there you dont really have a choice in which teacher you get so my only advice is not to strike up a conversation if you have somewhere to be in 15mins...he LOVES to hear himself talk

Dr. Babler is one of the greatest professors you will ever have. He is a genius when it comes to organic chemistry, and is extremely helpful in class. I highly recommend taking him for Major's Organic Chemistry.

The first half of Advanced Orgo with Dr. Babler is just like his undergrad organic class. The only difference is that there is no book, so make sure you memorize all the reactions in the packets. The tests are the same format, except they are more difficult because each reactant has multiple functional groups. This part of the course is not bad.

Great professor! Organic is fairly difficult but if you go to the lectures and discussion and do the (optional) reading and problems, you'll be fine. Lives up to his name and tends to ramble. Tests mostly focused on reactions.

Good professor. Go to lecture and discussion. Tests are straightforward, do the reading. A lot of material comes from the handouts. Mega curve. 80% is an A. be prepared to listen to him ramble on and on and on for a large part of the lectures.

Dr. Babler is the professor that you want to have. He is extremely helpful and clear. Lectures are usually very interesting and informative. Orgo is a hard class, but Dr. Babler will get you through it with the grade you deserve. Just don't let him ever corner you outside of class unless you have about an hour to spend listening to him rant.

Comment:
Orgo 1 with Babler is a possible class because NO MECHANISMS ON ANY TESTS. For the rxns, all you need to know are the major products. He is pretty generous with partial credit too. There are a few things on the tests that are only found in his packets. Tests are hard because you dont have much time to think or double check. Use book for the rxns.
