Interesting class that requires a lot of reading and classroom interaction. Graded by very few things, so you need to study hard. Main problem is lack of inclusivity and intersectionality within this course-- LGBT issues are rarely discussed, and when they are, it's from the perspective of social scientists from the early 2000s.

He is extremely lecture heavy so it's best to type notes so you don't miss anything. He makes class interesting by showing videos from movies and shows. But definitely be warned that you will talk about all things sex in this class like everything. You'll cringe a LOT if you aren't a sociology major or used to this kind of subject matter.

Awful Presses his personal opinion forward to change others. Imposes his beliefs and encourages others to conform to his way of thinking on all issues. Extremely controlling and violates personal boundaries on sexual topics.

His classes were more like workshops than lectures. It was very interactive and interesting. He would show funny video clips. He really makes you think. He grades you on tests, but he also has one extra credit paper.

He posts a "study guide" on blackboard and it is literally notes for all of the lectures for the year. I added notes to what he already had and then used that to study. Took this in the summer, and tests were online, so it was open note. Papers were due online too. If you miss class, you may miss material. He is very rude, but it is bearable.

This was probably by far the most interesting class I've taken thus far in my college career. The professor is very well spoken and relates to the students and has a sense of humor. You will learn a lot of interesting things and be prepared for your opinion to be changed. He challenges students in an academic way. You do have to read. Take it!

First time I ever failed a course and I am an AB student. He is not willing to help and does not cover everything in the course that he test you over. The test are ridiculously hard and tricky, the class averages for all the test were D's which says alot because he offers no curve and no extra credit opportunities for students. Should be fired.

I have mixed feelings about this professor. I took him for human sexuality, the lectures were interested as were the readings but the tests were VERY hard, even for me, and I did every reading. However since I actively participated in every class I got a higher grade than those who didn't so if you take him, make sure to raise your hand a lot.

James never covered the syllabus, and I never missed a class. Lowest grade possible was a 71 percent for a D- . Only 4 exams, no extra credit, and impossible to schedule meeting outside of his office hours. He speaks with conjunction theories without taking breathes and expects you to follow along and seems irritated when you ask a question.

AWFUL. Very arrogant. Started off the first day of class saying that its pretty much impossible to get an A in his class. Do not take him if you want a chance of passing.

This teacher is VERY discouraging. He really wasn't open to answering any questions during office hours. He had one student that he called on all the time. His test are extremely hard and the questions are not very clear. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING HIM!

This class was going to be a difficult class for me without having a horrible teacher. James Beggan wouldn't meet with me unless I had a specific question about a problem. Apparently it was my responsibility to take the material I learned in class and "run with it". It was awful. I ended up withdrawing because I wasn't going to do well enough.

His tests are near impossible. The only extra credit opportunitity is a 12 page paper that you recieve 8 points for. He often skips topics in the lecture then tests us on stuff he hardly even covered.

Loved going to this class! His lectures are very engaging and he helps you to think more analytically. Test questions come directly from lectures and the reading so if you just take notes and actually read you will do just fine.

Great teacher. Really cares about what he teaches. Take notes on lectures, clips, and readings. 4 tests only, gives extra credit option. Tests are based on all the material covered.

Absolutely awful. Avoid this prof at all costs! He was unclear on topics that we were discussing, and let things very open ended. He also tested over useless information, such as the name of a character from a clip he used, making his tests near impossible. Full of lots of trick questions.
