I took 5 classes with him. Fell in love with the language, studied abroad in Russia, and gained a good understanding of the culture, which translated to good friendships and lots of fun. Highly recommended.

I've been studying Russian with Dr. Brown for nearly 2 years now and I'm loving it!! Coming into Russian 101, I couldn't speak a single word of Russian, but now after taking his classes my speaking and writing skills have improved a lot! Great teacher who is more concerned about you learning the language rather than strict grading.

He is a great teacher, highly knowledgeable. His WI class is very worth it - mainly watching videos and documentaries, and a 850+ word post every Tuesday. Attendance 1/3 of grade, sometimes he asks questions to see if anyone was paying attention, but no big if you donʻt know. If you think itʻs boring itʻs because you donʻt care to learn!

Cool guy, easy papers for a WI class but he does want you to put some thought into it. Really interesting, even if you don't know a thing about Russia. Worth taking if you need a WI

I am now in my third year of Russian, with the majority of my classes with Prof. Brown. He is a great teacher, who cares more about students understanding than strict grading. The difficulty and grade you receive will depend on the effort you put into it. This is for any language you attempt to learn.

For a WI class, Prof. Brown is perfect. He let's you write pretty much anything for your weekly assignments, as long as it's interesting to read. Doesn't lecture much, but when he does talk about Russian stuff it's usually fun and interesting.
