I agree with the rater about 5 down from here. I mean, EXACTLY right. The way pronounces words makes me think he's not that smart, but he actually is quite sharp. A nice, helpful prof, despite his intimidating demeanour.

This class is incredibly informative. There is tonnes of very complex material to take in but, once you've got it, exams are fair. He is a very good speaker and is very well-versed in the subject. Very good class. Clear and fair. Oh, and he's a great guy, if you talk to him its obvious he cares, he's more than just smart.

McGill is blessed to have a guy like him. Extremely interresting lectures, knowledgable, open to discussion and quick-witted. 341 was better than 340 though, as 340 was covering too much material, but still, wow.

Comment:

Decent guy, pretty humourless though. He comes off as a bit, um, slow-witted. He says words like "nuke-yu-ler" instead of nuclear and "fustrated" instead of frustrated. Despite the fact I cannot figure out how he ascended to academia, I liked his class and his clarity. A bit over-simplified -- but for a 300-level course, that's just fine by me.

This guys is awesome. His lectures are engaging, all encompassing, and to the point: he has great Power Points to help organize your studying, and the reading is very fair and interesting. I've seen him out in bars along St. Laurent so many times too, and he's really cool if you come up to him and say hi. Always helps on WebCT: great prof!

Anti-Israel? What are you talking about?? He's probably one of the most balanced professors I've heard on the subject. He's a super-cool guy, and he gives great advice. Make him your advisor if you're in Middle Eastern Studies.

Objective? I think not! Very anti-israel and it shows. I'm liberal, and I was even offended at times. Veyr interesting class. Great lecturer. I got ripped off on my marks though. I don't know if it was just the TA, but really tough marking!

There are not enough good things that can be said about Devine. Not only does he make complex issues clear but remains objective in all of the lectures that deal with sensitive topics. Great powerpoints, great lectures and very fair exams. If I could, I would take every Poli sci class with Devine.

Amaaaazing. James, as described to me by a number of my friends, is a "big, Middle East teddy bear". He's clear, concise, informative, knowledgable, and really, really nice. It's a lot to know, but the readings are short. He's also really flexible, and answers questions on WebCT all night
