Comment:

I took Comparative study of religions and it was a very informative class, but it was non-stop lecture which got old fast. You can have 4 absences and if you skip it wont be terrible. He gives 5 exams none of the cumulative which is nice. There is a lot of reading for the class, but I never read any of them and I was fine.

Comment:

This professor treated a 100 level class like it was boot camp. I will never take a class with him again. The only way I would recommend Mr. Egge to another student is if their major is in his field and they are incredibly passionate about it. if you are looking for a class to pass with a good grade, do not take any classes with James Egge.

Comment:

I love professor Egge. He's an easy grader. Sometimes his lectures drag on sometimes he gets behind and he expects a lot of participation, but doing the reading helps. Also this class is more of Buddhism as a religion rather than the history of Buddhism. There are 2 papers a quiz and three exams so a lot of work but he is helpful in office hours.

I had him for Intro to Religion. His class was pretty easy if you show up and pay attention. His notes and readings are all online, and instead of a textbook an iClicker is required for quizes nearly every class. He doesn't allow laptops. Tests are fairly easy. This isn't a blowoff class, but it is pretty easy if you pay attention.

Egge is awesome, and gorgeous. He needs a hot tamale. He is helpful and nice, but his classes can be tough. HIST306 (Hinduism) is more like a lit class than a history class- it's tough.

He's a super nice guy, there is no question about that. Always responds to emails and takes time during office hours. The only problems: ereserves are one big file so it's easy to do the wrong reading, and his lectures are a little dry. There are test questions about the in-class films, so be prepared for those. No exam reviews, no extra credit.

I could listen to him for hours. He was passionate, brilliant, and he was invested in the success of his students. I was an SI leader for this class and I learned so much about religion; not just learning definitions like other HIST 100 professors, but really getting into their belief systems. If you want to really learn, take his class.

Clearly passionate about the subject - stimulates interest for the students to see him teach. Genuinely wants the best for his students, an overall great guy. Class and exams were really easy but still required critical thinking.

Easy professor. Exams were essay, but they were things we talked about all the time in class. The papers were fairly short and easy. For this class you have to go to 2 Buddhist temples, but I thought it was really cool and a great experience. He is a great guy and the class is easy. Take him, you won't regret it!

Easy class just so long as you take good notes and study them. For the Honors section you just have to write a couple 1-page papers that are credit or no credit. Pay attention to the discussions on the readings, because this is what the essay part of the tests will be about

Great professor! He's so knowledgeable with the topics..he knows the answer to almost everything. He's not biased what-so-ever. Class was fun and interactive, but tests are somewhat difficult. As long as you study, you'll be fine. I recommend this class with him!

Loved this class, very knowledgeable on the subject . This is one of the best professors I had at EMU. You must attend lectures to get anything out of this class so if you aren’t the type or don’t really care about the subject do not take him. He is a passionate brilliant man I highly recommend his classes.

Very easy professor. Test questions come straight from notes and readings. I didn't buy a book and not once did I need it. Wasn't a super exciting class but it was really easy.
