lectures consists of slides with 100 pictures of them. nothing makes sense, nothing connects, scattered in his teaching approach. reading doesnt help, doesnt use book! tests go off of his lecture and opinion. essay feedback is horrible. only his opinion counts and thats it. tried asking for help many times. assumes everyone knows what he knows.

Just don't. The guy talks so quiet and it was already a very boring topic. Studying will not guarantee success, assignments are unclear, and there are a lot of very hard to read assignments that would be required then never referred back to. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. Beware.

Took him for AIS and the class was so boring. The powerpoints are randomly put together and if you study for the test it is not going to help, it's pretty much a guessing game. Everything is unclear from lectures, test, and assignments. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

He wasn't clear on what the lectures were about, he would often go off topic. His class is just powerpoint and him taking the whole 50 minutes. He sometimes takes attendance, but when he doesn't he gives participation grades, so you can say that attendance is mandatory.

If you're taking this class in hopes of it being a blow-off class, you should choose another one, because this was definitely not one. If you want an A in this class, you actually have to read, and there are A LOT of reading assignments in multiple books. Also, taking notes from his slides is not very helpful.

I love Prof. Gallagher! I know a lot of people think he is boring but if you are passionate about the material you will enjoy his class. He is very knowledgeable about the ancient world. He doesn't take attendance but your grade will be much better if you do go to class. His assignments are tough but he is a pretty lenient grader. Will take again!

Comment:
Course is unnecessarily difficult. Material covered is enough to cover 2 separate courses. Each slide presentation consist of at least 100 slides & do not lend to better understanding of the material as they are disorganized & difficult to follow. Preparation for exams are so arduous b/c of the format of the test which demands too much.

DO NOT take him! Lectures consist of pictures and sporadic words. You can never be sure what will be on the test. Didn't put up a syllabus until 2 MONTHS into the semester. Not helpful at all. I do NOT recommend taking him!

Do not suggest if this is not within your interest. Information is too expanse and confusing. Professor is very smart but teaches in a way that is only suitable for humanities/classics majors. Tests, homeworks, etc are very overbearing.

I got an A+ in this class. This is an unbiased review. Professor is helpful but has difficulty presenting material in a consistent way. If you a problem with any of the following do not take this class: using sparknotes, reading, remembering names, writing essays, writing in class essays, watching four hours of online lectures, taking good notes.

I took the online course and had mixed feelings about it. With both the lectures and the Wednesday meetings, "class time" was more than a normal course. The videos don't work right on Macs, so I had to download VLC and go to the library to watch them. I did well on all of the tests and essays because I did the work, and I think his tests are fair.

A great hybrid Latin language course. All lectures are videos online that you follow with your text book. A quiz nearly every week on the one day you meet, but other than a few tests (which are just like a quiz) everything is done out of class. A small story translation you turn in every week. Not tested on Pronunciation. Best Latin professor!!

If you don't like hard work, challenging yourself or showing up up for class you won't like Dr. Gallagher. One of the 3 best educational experiences I have had in 27 years in education. Brilliant man, passionate about his topic but he won't hold your hand. Show him an effort & he will help you don't & you will feel like a deer in the headlights

He is a very good teacher. It was a hard class b/c of all the reading and all the memorizing of names and images but it was fun and you learn a lot. His grading scale was great. I saw many not putting any effort in a passed I put a lot of effort in and got an A. I recommend if you work hard at college. He is very intelligent and he really cares.

Gallagher is a terrible professor. Class was a hybrid class, and the one day we met was attendance required but he never even taught on those days, he just did a stupid completion grade. If you asked him anything he insults you, class doesn't teach you anything except for trying to remember stupid obscure names and details in mythology. Stay away.
