Comment:
Kall doesn't have good lectures and expects you to teach yourself orgo from his beloved Carey textbook. He doesn't have any HW to help offset your grade, rarely gives partial credit and is very tough with grading. The grading criteria doesn't seem fair and he doesn't seem to care about how well students are understanding the material.

The lecture slides weren't extremely helpful, but make sure to do all the practice problems he gives you, as they'll prepare you for the exams. He seems pretty extra with all the stuff he does. He's decent enough though

Took the class in 2017. Lectures are easy to understand. The practice questions and reviewing old tests are key if you want to do well on exams (which are the only thing your grade is based on). He doesn't allow the use of laptops, phones, etc. during his class. It can be hard to ignore his huge ego and his attitude can be annoying.

Dr. Kallmerten is fantastic. Engaging and very passionate about teaching. I do not agree with comment below:while Kallmerten makes his own lecture notes (which I appreciate over other professors who use the publisher's notes), they are extremely well designed. All the info IS straight from the textbook!, with only 2-3 additional reactions.

Your entire grade is based on exam scores but he does not tell you where your grade lies (if you got a B, C, etc). He just shows you the class average and your exam grade. When studying for his class FOCUS on his lecture slides and problem sets, they will help the most compared to the textbook because Kallmerten pretty much does his own thing.

I got a high A in this class and you will too: read thoroughly every assigned chapter and do the in text and end of chapter questions. Which ones? All of them. You, a pencil, blank paper, thinking through problems, solutions manual, and lots of frustration are the key indgredients to an A. This is not the time for 15 credits. Kallmerten is great.

Prof. Kallmerten is the best professor I have had here at Syracuse. Incredibly knowledgeable and delivers organic chemistry lectures in a very engaging manner. He makes lecture enjoyable to attend, and overall it was a pleasure to take his class.

When I started the semester, I thought I would really like him. I was wrong. He is unwilling to help and extremely condescending. His office hours are unwelcoming and intimidating as well.

Dr. Kallmerten is the best professor I have had at SU, no doubt about it. He is incredibly smart, and his passion about organic chemistry is unparalleled by any other professor. Lectures are engaging and enjoyable. Tests are fair, and if you put in the work, there is no trouble getting the grade you want.

Professor Kallmerten is by far the best Organic Chemistry Professor I've ever had. His Lectures are well prepared and his PowerPoints are a great study resource. The class had very difficult material but he invested enough time in explaining all the difficult concepts. His tests are difficult but fair and the curve for the class is very helpful.

Professor Kallmerten does a great job at explaining the subject. His slides are organized in a logical fashion and are a reliable source to study from. He is certainly a great teacher to have for a hard class like this. The tests are tough but are fair and consistent with what he talks about in class. Orgo 2 is very difficult and time consuming tho

Dr. Kallmerten is a great guy. He is enthusiastic about teaching the material and helping students understand the material but Organic Chemistry is a difficult course. I would gladly take another class with him. Just be warned there are no electronics in class.

Such an awesome guy- incredibly nice attitude toward teaching and loves to teach students. Really does engage with students during lectures. The best orgo professor ever, very clear and concise explanation that's easy for students to understand. But be warned: orgo is incredibly hard and takes most of your studying time to get an A

Organic Chemistry wasn't an easy class, at all, but his lectures really helped a lot and I also went to his office hours. He's pretty tough but he's willing to help as long as you ask. He has a unique way of teaching and I think it made the class more interesting, for me, at least.
