Lots of work, quizzes, reflections, essays, etc. Really interesting topic. Professor Miller knows a lot about the topic. Be prepared to do a lot of work to get a good grade, if you don't do most of the work you will fail.

One of the most caring profs I've ever had. Actually want his students to do well and puts in an extreme amount of work into his course. Everything is well thought out and structures with tons of instructions. Gives you plenty of opportunity to get an A. Is obviously very passionate about this course. Recommend!

Professor Miller does an awesome job at teaching the fascinating history of madness. His lectures are always engaging (and short), and he encourages the class to continue our exploration of the subject with many of interesting resources. The class itself is very interesting and extremely well laid out- very easy to do well in

James Miller is a great professor. He is very fascinated by the history of madness. It makes the course a breeze and he assigns relevant readings. The weekly mini assignments ensure that you are not bogged down with the pressure of large essays and exams. Get one bad grade, still possible to get an A!

Weekly mandatory work makes it easy to not let the work pile up until the end of the semester. Little effort needs to be put in but if you don't bother it will reflect in your grade. An interesting topic that he managed really well by chronological order and discussing themes throughout. Pretty easy grader and no major assignments

Great prof, lectures are usually interesting but can get a bit boring at the end. Posts all slides online. I suggest you either do the readings or go to class, gives the same info. 2 essays and a final essay, so no need to stress about going to all lectures or taking serious notes. Very helpful answering emails and in his office.

You can tell he knows a lot but his lectures were boring. The most exciting part was the beginning when he would do "a word from our sponsors" and would show funny clips that somewhat related to the class content. Consists of 2 short assignments and a take home. Pretty easy to get a good grade.

Great professor. Probably my favourite that I have had at Carleton. He has a real passion for what he is teaching and though at times his lectures can be dry they are always informative and mostly interesting. His marking was hard but mostly fair. Really enjoyed his teaching in this class.

I looked up Dr. James Miller and laughed when I saw the chili pepper beside his name, relieved almost that I wasn't the only one who found him HOT- but seriously, Dr. Miller is obviously super-intelligent, he is funny, and he cares. This class is loaded with valuable material and I highly recommend the experience.

Sometimes dry, but tried hard and did a pretty good job. Wait for the snide remarks about England, and you'll never be disapointed.

Although his lectures seem to always be somewhat confusing, he manages to get the main points across. His jokes throughout class help make things interesting. I warn you, do not take his class if you like talking during class. Overall, a helpful, good prof.

Worst lecturer I have ever had, he puts me to sleep, cannot keep on one train of thought. Just started using powerpoint and cannot operate his slides. Reads off his notes, and discusses sports instead of doing the lecture thus forcing the class further behind and prolonging his already dry lecture
