Wonderful teacher. My favorite teacher I've had since beginning at UH. He's so intelligent and challenging, he truly pushes you. I would definitely take him again. You must go to class and take good notes. This is definitely not a class to slack off in.

Dr. Pipkin is passionate and obviously knowledgeable in his lecturing. Two papers + one exam. The easiest thing to do is take careful notes and repeat them on the exam and papers. So attendance is essential and he will drop you if you're habitually late or absent. But you should read the material because he will randomly ask students questions.

Pipkin is by far one of the best professors I've taken, and this was one of the most interesting classes I've taken. Do not take this class if you aren't good at writing or you're expecting an easy A. He will help as much as he can, and he offers the option to review your paper a week before you submit it. Utilize this. Go to class every day.

Comment:
Pipkin is clearly knowledgeable & passionate about romantic literature, but his grading/discussions/analysis are difficult overall. This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken and I managed to scrape by with a C, regardless of me constantly reading, taking notes, and asking him for help. He makes it challenging & he's not afraid to fail you

Great professor. He really cares and is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. If you're not great at writing, either don't take this class or go to his office hours for help. I love him.

Pipkin is a scholar and very passionate about romanticism. He grades relative to the other students in the class and encourages students to meet up with him for help. Taking very thorough notes makes this class much easier! I definitely recommend this course.

He's not exactly mean however he doesnt mind having you feel less than intelligent. He knows what he is talking about however the ideas are vague to begin with. He only gives three grades; two papers and a final. You only get to see one of your grades. He grades much harder and stricter than any teacher I have ever had. If you value your gpa avoid.

LOVE this class and Pipkin. He's brilliant, clear, helpful. A tough grader but it forces you to improve. Always available to discuss your work. Helps you with outlines and rewrites. Passionate and funny. Papers each worth 20% and attendance/c;ass discussion is key. Definitely take this! You won't regret it! My favorite professor so far!

One of the harshest professors at UH. Extremely nit-picky on papers. Class discussions useful. More than willing to go over your papers during office hours. If you are a weak writer, prepare to work! Preferes you come to him over getting someone else to look over your essays.

An amazing professor for dedicated students! Try to show up everyday, participate in class discussion and take notes! (What he says in class about the books is basically what he's looking for in the papers) Take advantage of his office hours too, he is more willing to help the one's that seem genuinely interested in their grade.

Brilliant. He knows his subject area very well and he knows how to portray it to a LISTENING and participating class. Go to class, read your assignments and you'll be fine. I recommend contacting him outside of class or visiting in office hours- he is extremely helpful to those who ask for help.

Very, very difficult. DO NOT MISS CLASS. BE SURE TO ENGAGE IN DISCUSSIONS! He is harsh, but slightly leaning towards fair-ish. The type of professor to make your life a living hell if you don't jump when he says jump. However, if you ask for help or guidance and show interest you will be fine. GOOD LUCK!

I am currently in this class and i hate it! He is one of the worst professors i have had and i was compelled to let him know. He asks questions just so he can tell you that YOU are wrong and HE is right. He grades so horrible! If it's no his opinion then don't even think about writing it. Doesnt allow you to think outside the box. dont take it!!

Warning: has SIXTH SENSE. Can always tell when you put in work or not, and As given when lots+++ work put in. B is a bit easier. AUTO-DROPS from class when absent more than twice. I'd say practically intimate w/every text. Grade based entirely on a few papers, some short some long (last one is min. 10pg). If you don't like English, don't take him.
