Comment:

Shen is an excellent professor. If you take one of his classes, you will learn a lot. However, he is NOT an easy A. But if you never miss class, write down ALL of his notes, make flashcards out of your notes, & prepare ahead of time, you will get a good grade. The book is only needed for skimming to make flashcards.

Dr. James Shen is by far the greatest not only Stockton professor I've had but the greatest professor ever. Cares so much about the students but will make you EARN your grade. He has a sense of humor and makes the class funny. Take him for Theories of MASS comm, Computers and Senior Seminar. He'll prepare you for the work force. Write that down!

The people who are saying he's a "hard grader" are the ones who don't study for his tests or quizzes. He's an extremely fair grader and an all around helpful and caring professor. One of the best professors to have, especially if you're an upperclassmen looking for an internship. His lectures can be tedious yet still interesting & he's very smart.

I love Shen! His tests are tough but if you study you will have no problem. He's really enthusiastic and loves what he does. If you are a COMM major and haven't taken one of his classes yet I recommend you do! 2 tests (Midterm and a final), 2 quizzes, 6 e-assignments, and a final presentation. Don't slack and you'll be fine. Don't buy the textbook.

Shen's the man. He'll make the class an easy going experience. Very funny and has his funny one-liners, "write it down or i'll cut your fingers" "You won't get job offer" "Former students of mine..." Doesn't use the textbook either.

I've taken several of Shen's courses. They're always the same format. Show up to class, literally copy his lecture notes into your notebook, laugh at his jokes. Take a test based on the notes (memorize vocab, mostly). If you show up, take notes, study... you'll do fine. He's also really nice, and often drops low test scores. Highly recommend.

Dr. Shen classes are amazing. Have him for theories and computer. He really nice and willing to help you work through the class. His test are not hard as long as you listen to his lecture, read the note, and study the vocabulary. Don't need books for his class, his note is all you will need. Anything else just google. Best teacher ever.

Don't buy the book! Computers is great. You learn all about MS Office and there's no homework! And its a Q2. Class almost always gets out early, and he will stay to help you if you need it. Anyone who's ever used a PC before should pass with flying colors.

So far, his lectures are long and boring. His tests are hard, fill in the blanks, short answers, and define vocab words. You want to get a good grade? Find a different professor, this ones got a PHd and will bore you till the point of exhaustion.

I took his computer class over the summer (3-6 three days a week) He only makes you stay till five each day. He gives you time to finish most of the work in class, also no book needed. I am in an internship now and this class was very helpful!! Nice guy.

Shen is a great professor. This class was pretty helpful also. There were 2 quizzes, 1 midterm,a term project, which was a newsletter, and assignments. The assignments were pretty straightforward and if you need help, he is right there to help you. Definitely take this class.

The COMM Computers class is all about Word, Excel and Powerpoint (among others). Easy if you show up and can do the assignments. Take this class!
