Comment:
He isn't too bad, but make sure to sit near the front and answer questions once in awhile. He does make you read lots of articles and papers, and he will want you to discuss their details in class, so make sure you're prepared. But you aren't graded over too much and he's pretty lenient on grading the paper you're supposed to be writing.

He's a great professor with a profound interest in making sure the students understand. Keep up with the readings though b/c on discussion days he goes around the room asking what the students though about the reading assignment. We worked on a term paper over the course of the semester, but it's only around 5 pages and he grades it easily.

He is very hard, and is tests are even harder. If you essentially suck up to him and try to particiapte during class you will pass. However he does not take kindly to contradicting views. READ READ READ. So much of the class is through textbooks, horrible lectures.

His class is difficult and he isn't the best at communication outside of the classroom but if you put in some effort it is dang near impossible to fail this class with him. He does try to help and expects most students to be history majors which is why it is difficult.

Don't even consider taking a class from him. His tests are impossible to study for unless you are good at memorizing every single little detail. His essay questions often aren't even about stuff he covered in class. He complained about his low salary at least once a week. Save yourself the hassle and pick someone else.

Just a tip to anyone (like me) Who is having problems with this class. Take the lecture notes that he posts online (The powerpoint slides) And look up the main points, as well as the subpoints in your text book and online. I found this brilliant idea most helpful.

Dont ever take a class from James Sherow. Impossible to take notes with over whelming lectures with extra readings and videos that never can finish in time. Test are extremely hard with a massive list of names. I have see many say that he is a jerk, its true. Sherow will yell at you for coming late, leaving early or having a phone.

Professor Sherow is a very kind person, however his classes are extremely hard to follow. It is very hard to follow the lectures and take notes. Needs more opportunities to earn credit and points, as well as a specific study guide for the extremely hard tests he gives. That would make his class much easier and more helpful <3

Professor Sherow Is a very kind generous person, he has always been kind to me and responds to emails in a timely manner most of the time. However His lectures are very hard to follow, which makes it hard to pay attention. Lack of study guides for tests which are extremely hard. Needs more opertunities to earn points and better study guides.

This prof does not respond to attempts to communicate. It takes him over a week to respond to an email your better off camping his office before or after class. He is to busy to be a professor and because of this his classes are difficult because of a lack of communication imo.

Sherow is not a good professor, his lecture notes are extremely hard to follow. Like one of the reviewers said before he preaches constantly about being open-minded but only tells the side of history that favors his political views. His tests are tricky to say the least and doesn't offer much to study on. I would avoid him as a professor.

Professor Sherow is absolutely amazing. He teaches a unique perspective, that of the working class and not the usual boring businessmen MVP history. It is immensely eye-opening, and highly recommended for anyone interested in a more conscious social perspective. GREAT. GREAT. GREAT.

OK, so he's not the easiest professor, but I don't think the other reviews have been quite fair. Dr. Sherow is brilliant in his subjects and does a good job at getting his students to "rethink" traditional history.
