Comment:

Dr. Thompson is a very smart man and his Biol1114 Honors course will certainly test you, but I am glad I took it. It taught me a lot about myself and good study techniques. Take notes and pay attention or you will not be successful.

Comment:

Boring lecturer but do pay attention cause he teaches you how to do the math that will be on the exam. Not in the syllabus but final will replace lowest exam. There's also a paper which he grades super easy. Slides suck and he's not super kind in office hours, so get ready for a lot of independent learning.

Dr. Thompson is a fine lecturer. The class is easy to make an A in as long as you don't need any assistance. Outside of class he is rude and inapproachable. He is very hard to speak too and often is very dismissive and short with questions about course content. It's possible to get an A, as long as you can learn independently.

Comment:

Dr. Thompson is a great prof, but you have to make sure to study outside of class. The power points do not begin to cover what is needed. Action center is available and you definitely want to go. Get to know Dr. Thompson in AC and in office hours, because his personal feelings reflect when it is time for grades.

I bet Dr. Thompson was an amazing teacher 20 years ago, but his age is definitely showing. His lectures were so slow and disorganized they were unbearable. Also, the class meets in dale hall and is absolutely filled to capacity, making it hard to focus, especially during tests. I thought this class would be interesting, but not so much b/c Thompson

Monotone voice that is impossible to listen to. Lectures are boring. He posts slides online but they are only an outline, not helpful. Tests are difficult. Final grade based on hourly exams, final, learn smarts (worth 1 exam), and paper. 4 exams, drops 1. I taught myself the material from the book. Genetics is fun but he makes it boring.

He is a GREAT professor, don't get me wrong. But, he is so soft spoken and monotone, his lectures are unbearable. I stopped going to class because I couldn't stay focused. He posts his slides online, but they're only an outline, not the actual in depth material, so it was a little difficult for me. Solid choice if you don't have trouble focusing.

I loved Dr. Thompson! His class is probably the most difficult I have taken at OU, but he gives you every opportunity to make an A (in fact, he WANTS you to make an A). He understands and fosters the kind of classroom that honors students crave and is very detailed in his lectures. Don't waste your money on the book and he makes the lab exam EC!

He is a really good professor. I took him a couple years ago and did rather well in his class. Struggled at first until I learned how his test were structured. Study his slides and take notes and you'll do just fine in his class.

He is a sweet old man and he knows his stuff. Must go to class!! No hw but better to study your notes a good time before the exams. 3 essays. Exams are written: MC, short answer, essay. I studied the night before on all exams cuz of class conflict and made low A's. I studied the wrong stuff for the final so it was difficult. Comprehensive it was.

Dr. Thompson is a very good professor. This class is quite difficult, though. There is a very large volume of information given each lecture, so you should definitely not skip class. Also, I wouldn't buy the textbook - I only used it as a review and to clarify lecture concepts.

Comment:

Dr. Thompson is insanely smart and caring. Make sure to stay up-to-date when studying as there is some obscure info from lectures on the tests. He's an easy grader on the papers though. Get ready to learn A LOT. Gives a fair amount of extra credit. Just borrow the textbook from the library; I only needed it to clarify a few concepts.

class is a lot harder than it needs to be for a freshman/intro class. Tests are tough and can be very brutal if you're off guard but the professor is sweet, kind and understanding. Wouldn't take this class again though, unnecessarily difficult for an intro class :(

Dr. Thompson is one of my favorite professors. He is very approachable and genuinely cares about the success of his students. There are 4 tests with the final replacing your lowest test score. There is one paper, but it doesn't require too much effort. He talks about a lot of his information instead of putting it on slides so showing up helps alot

Genetics with Dr. Thompson was a good class. This is generally a tough class for students since the way he presents it requires the student to think and try to understand the material on his own. His lecture slides on their own don't have much info therefore attending class is a must. Also, he is always there to help students and is a great prof

Comment:

Class was harder than it should have been. Lectures did not allude to what would end up on the tests, which is what was explained to be the format of the class, making the tests much harder than they should have been because of difficulties studying. Despite this issue the class was enjoyable for the most part. Prof. is a warm person and will help.

Dr. Thompson is great, definitely one of the sweetest professors out there. I recommend taking honors because the labs are much more fun. It was a super fun, interesting, and great class, but don't learn the hard way that you need to STUDY and I mean STUUDDYYY for his tests! They are so hard and detailed, all out of the notes though, not the book.

Absolutely loved this professor! Definitely take his honors class. The labs are awesome and he truly wants his students to succeed. Attending class is crucial-- I studied from my notes and never used the book. The tests are hard, but there's extra credit opportunities.
