Little bit random with what he discusses during lectures. Likes to try and inspire his students and he sometimes cares more about that than effectively teaching the material before assessing us on it. Powerpoints were not very well done. Take notes and use the book often and youll do decently well.

Dr. Van Zummeren is an amazing professor. As long as you follow the rubrics for the papers you will be fine. I had him Mondays from 7:20-10 and he would always let us go by 9:30 tops but still covered all the material every single class. If you ever have a question you can just email him and he will help you out! It was a fun class, he's funny :)

The class was a little bit boring at times but he does his best to try and make it interesting. There are 2 easy knowledge quizzes, 3 short papers, 1 major paper, and a final paper. He does his best to help his students. 1st day of class he said that his job is to help his students get a C in the class. He's a retired marine and a packers fan.

Professor Zummeren, is NOT a fair teacher. The draft paper weighs more than the final paper. He writes suggestions on your paper and expects you to change them, and when you do, he grades the paper worse than the draft. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is so boring, and no one can understand him when he speaks.

I've been avoiding taking this class, too much writing! But he helps you understand the material, the lectures arent boring. Its a 3hour class, and you get out a lot earlier. There are a lot of short papers easy though, then theres the rhertoic paper wow I was SO stressed. But he said I could turn it in after the deadline. I was very appreciative.

The material is HELLA BORING. The textbook was a VERY BORING READ. Prof Van is the sweetest man ever. He is super flexible with deadlines, he lets you turn in late assignments at the end of the semester for points. He is a super easy grader too. He is very understanding and always willing to help. I'd choose him again if he taught another course.

This professor was a great pleasure surprise this semester. I actually leaned a lot from him. My rhetorical criticism improved a lot thanks to him. He comes out as tough but as long as you respect him as the professor and do your assignments you will be just fine. He treats his students as adults and it's flexible with deadlines. I highly recommend

Great teacher who is a fair grader in an otherwise VERY difficult course. Willing to accomodate his students and help. Only teaches evenings, but definitely take him if you have to take COMM 300.
