Comment:

Don't take marine bio unless you are good at memorization. For the most part it's memorizing the names and functions of invertebrate anatomies and taxonomies. He wastes so much class time with anecdotes and playing videos of swimming animals. Tests emphasize memorization over knowledge of biological processes. Jan is also pretty condescending

Comment:

Dr. Pechenik is a good guy and his class is interesting. He knows his stuff and loves when kids make marine invertebrate related jokes. We read a lot of detailed stuff but he goes over the most important things in class and is very helpful in office hours. His lectures are interesting and has a good sense of nerdy humor. tests are fair but study.

Great professor. Gives out origami sharks for most improved and highest test scorers. Super enthusiastic about marine invertebrates.

not horribly difficult but a lot of memorization. His lectures dont match the lectures so you have to go to class. Two tests and a cumulative final. There are weekly quizes that are annoying and easy but give you free points if you do the reading.

pechenik is really into what he does, and i think he's truly dedicated to teaching. this is a very well-designed course (marine bio, that is), and i don't think that people appreciate his dorky humor enough.
