Looking at all the negative comments about "JS" I can't believe it's the same teacher. When I had her back in 86 or 87 she was one of the best I ever had. She may have been tough, but she wanted and expected you to put your best into whatever project you were doing. Welcome to the real world, and welcome to the film and TV industry.

Jane can be a favoritist, but I think her grading seems to be pretty fair and un-biased. She has her friends show work because they can say exactly how it was done and what it means to them as artists. She has a background that leans heavily towards experimental works, but if you do quality work and aren't afraid you'll be okay. Don't do work just to please, her, please yourself and if she rags on you see if in your heart you believe that you did stellar work. Be honest...

Yes, Jane is tough-but she should be! And believe me, she's a kitten compared to many of the people who may hire you after you graduate. She is fair-she absolutely does NOT favor women. I can also honestly say that, in the two classes I've had with her, she screened a variety of different artists' work and never showed us any of her own work.

What everyone says about her is right. She's a rough, rough judge of talent. If Simon from American Idol had a sex change, you've got Jane Steurwald. But I can't lie. She is helpful and just wants the best of her students. But she does go overboard at times. A cool professor, but pls beware!
