As far as conveying the subject matter...she's amazing. If you put in the effort, you will learn a lot from her. That said, her grading is very arbitrary (but for the most part REDICULUSLY easy). She's intimidating some times, but get to know her and you realize she really cares and will help you if you ask. Rather unorganized. Too bad she's leavin

Janis is amazing! I love her to death and can't believe she's leaving. While the class was tough, it was an amazing experience and I loved meeting her. She will be missed!

We had a syllabus but we never followed it. Assignments were easy but grading policy was very unclear. Exams were difficult because she would fingerspell and sign at one speed in class and then increase that speed something like 5x on exams. Since it was her last semester teaching she also seemed very uninterested in our progress.

Professor Cole introduces students not only to ASL but also to Deaf Culture, which is a huge part of the language. She doesn't have interpreters so that the students are challenged to pay attention and learn how to communicate with her...I think everyone should take this basic ASL class...
