He's an excellent writing professor. He really taught me how to improve my writing. It's really tough to get A's on his papers because he's kinda hard to please, but he always provides helpful feedback. He's very kind and considerate. I recommend going to office hours to discuss writing ideas cuz he's super helpful!

If you have pretty solid writing skills and/or prior experience with scientific writing (e.g., summaries, lit reviews, etc.), this class is nothing to worry about. To do well, you need to be receptive to constructive criticism (asking for extra feedback always helps)and willing to improve (there's always room for improvement!) your writing.

Legal Writing is probably one of the harder UWP classes, but if you put in the effort and fall directions diligently, you can do well. Great professor!

Although he's a writing teacher usually, I had this guy for a freshman seminar. He's pretty straight-forward on what's going on and lets you know exactly what he wants. He's not very lenient with missing work unless you talk to him before it's due.

Tough class, but he gives all the chances to succeed. I took "Legal Writing" with minimal knowledge of legal terminology or how to read a legal document - and although it didn't hurt my grade, it gave me several sleepless nights! His dry humor and ability to learn everyone's names in the first week make the class feel comfortable to be in. He ta

This prof is awesome! He's VERY helpful if you need assistance with any of the papers. This is NOT an easy class, but he's very smart and does his best to make sure the student understand what is expected of them. Take advantage of his office hours and have him review papers before you turn them in. Haynes is really nice and easy to approach.

Hard + Bad professor. Writing, writing, and writing is not easy and if you are looking for an easy pass, I would not recommend him! Professor Haynes was very tough on his grading and expected students to write as if they were law students. ****Caution: NOT recommend for English as a second language.

WARNING! Legal writing is not easy and if you are looking for an easy A (or even an easy B), I would not recommend this class! Professor Haynes was very tough on his grading and expected students to write as if they were law students. This class required A LOT of work. Be prepared!

He's a nice enough guy, I suppose. A bit stern and unrelenting in his policies. Grammar is just an awful subject. It's bearable, but I'd say only take it if you have to, or if you live and breathe sentence diagramming, in which case I pity you if you do.

Extremely wonderful professor, the type you can tell loves his students and genuinely cares about them. Very helpful during office hours and is willing to spend lots of time helping you on your papers. Doesn't get annoyed with you E-mailing him a bunch of times. Overall, great teacher. He's been one of my favorite professors at UCD. Take him!

English is not a fun subject, but he is very compassionate and makes it interesting. He offers a makeup of 2 of the 3 papers and allows a make up on one the 2 grammar tests. Is very helpful in office hours and tells you exactly how to improve your writing for a better grade. Grammar tests kind of were annoying but if you study for them theyre ok

I would never take another class from this guy. Has absolutely no compassion/understanding for students (I got in a car accident, and he didn't let me make up a quiz), and while he's a decent grammar teacher, is very boring and dry. I hated going to this class, and the quizzes/midterm are hard.

Pros: Extremely helpful and willing to go over drafts. Only 35% of grade devoted to exams. Can turn in 1 paper a week late without penalty. Your writing WILL improve. Cons: tricky grammar quizzes, in-class essays for midterm and final. LOTS of writing, including two ~1200 word essays, revisions are almost necessary to get an A. Still recommended.

There are endless assignments practically due each week. Some of these are really annoying. Helpful to have taken upper division biology. Really demanding and its hard when you realize there was something due and you haven't done it yet. My grades were all over the map from D to A. Its hard to know what he wants.

Science of the Renaissance: Although the class was pretty difficult, the material was very interesting and Prof. Haynes was very knoweldgable and friendly. He is more than happy to help you if you go to his office hours. I learned a lot in his class and I'm very happy I took it.

He's really nice and I personally found the class really interesting. However, it is extremely frustrating when he grades essays in a check list style. For a broad question, he seems to expect certain specific points to be hit that are not necessary for a complete answer. Other than this, however, I would recommend him and the class.

This class is particularly difficult if you haven't taken upper-division biology-I would recommend putting it off as long as possible so to have a strong biological background.Mr.Haynes is nice, but does grade according to how closely you fit his "style".The class is very demanding-be prepared to work hard and write a ton.

He is not very clear on what he wants for assignments and is against "giving examples". He grades assignments based on how close they resemble his writing style, not on how well you did the assignment. I would not recommend taking this class unless you are already familiar with legal writing.
