This was my first painting class and Jay was very inspirational and supportive. He was always available and eager to answer any questions I had which were quite a few. He actual seemed excited to answer. In fact when he announced we was going to have an advanced version of the class I was in I signed up as soon as I could.

Jay balances technique with creativity and encourages and inspires students to explore their vision and interests. He expects hard work and dedication, but is very down to earth and gives practical critique. He is clearly passionate about seeing students grow and succeed, not to mention being a really funny guy. I always enjoy the class and grow.

A wealth of knowledge and very open to discussion if you show him you're interested and respectful- if you don't get new skills out of this class it is totally on you because he is very kind and supportive

Jay is a helpful professor and will work with you to achieve what you're trying to portray. I most like that he won't spoon feed you,but will make you work for it. Jay won't give out an easy A,but will acknowledge when you put in the effort. Jay's thoroughness and attention to detail are impressive.

I have to say that Jay is a very helpful and earnest teacher. At first I wasn't quite sure what he wanted from us (the class) but after only a little while I got used to his style. I found that he pushed me a little farther than I was comfortable with ( which is a good thing). I was forced out of my comfort zone so I could find new ways to paint.

I'd have to echo all good comments about Jay. He is very helpful and caring. He supplies his students with painting material when available. His critiques are helpful, but also uplifting and encouraging. It is very obvious he is knowledgeable about painting, which makes him an excellent prof to learn from! Highly recommended :)

Jay is an extremely helpful professor. I enjoyed working with him. He truly helped me understand the subject matter being taught which before, I did not understand very well. My understanding of mediums, techniques and applications grew by leaps and bounds in both classes I had with Jay. He made me a much more confident painter. I really enjoyed learning the "nuts and bolts" aspect of painting.
