Comment:
Never take him for 101. He is a great professor for anything but the basics. He expects you to understand what he is talking about without trying to teach you how to THINK about it. He just goes over it over and over again and then makes assumptions on his grading. Never, ever take him for a 101 class. Anything else, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!

Im not entirely sure why MCC is still allowing him to teach there, he has had multiple complaints against him for his unnecessary sexual references made in class, and the amount of people that drop his class is unreal. He doesnt care about the students, & is incredibly insensitive. Strongly discourage choosing him

While he is a tough grader Professor Nelson is an awesome professor. He is very clear in the beginning of the semester as to what he expects from you. Do the work and the reading, participate in class discussions, and take notes. Boom you passed!!

Interested in challenging the accepted norms of academic literature? Nelson is clearly passionate about the material he assigns and getting through to his students. Class is in discussion format. You must be prepared, on time, and ready to participatethink critically. Heavy reading but relatively light writing and test load. Worth it!

Professor Nelson is one of those people who wants things done his way. But, atleast he tells you exactly what that is, as long as you take notes and actually listen to him, you will pass.

Everything about him is bad. Ive been in honorsAP English since all through school, and my papers that i wrote, i put my heart and soul into them, spending many of nights up re writing papers, just to get failing grades. I never received a grade on a paper lower than an 80 in my life, and as soon as i got into his class, i got 60's. AWFUL AWFUL!!

Great teacher if you are able to be respectful. If not, then he might condescend (so would I). He is very enthusiastic about his material and it made the course more enjoyable for me.

Is extremely condescending. Does not allow you to make the same mistakes in previous papers but does not hand them back before the next one is due, making it very hard to know what you have to fix.

Nelson is probably the worst college professor I've had. I only was able to get a B after filing a grievance. Very unprofessional. He grades you on the content of your essays rather than quality. Also very condescending.

Professor Nelson is a very good teacher. He explains things very well and uses a lot of humor. In my class (Literature of Horror) we watched a lot of movies and had very good discussions. Just be careful about being late, he does not accept even 5 minutes past the classes starting time.

It's a somewhat demanding course. But he is a cool dude, very helpful, and wants to have you succeed as a student. He personally recommended a poem that I wrote to the literary contest.
