Very smart intellectual. I had him for Ottoman and African History, both online, but he is readily available to students for help. The work is quite excessive though, especially if you are taking both classes at the same time. Basically 2 papers each week for each class. But is a fair grader and you do learn a lot. I think he retied now..

I took Spaulding's online Ottoman class this semester. Overall it was a good class. He gives a ton of work though. He assigned two essays per week and a 15 page term paper at the end of the semester. So a total of 25 papers and a big term paper at the end. The amount of work was a bit excessive but the class was manageable and not too hard

I took his African History class online. It is an easy A if you do the assignments. There are 2 a week until you get to another book. Then there are 4 extra but they are short easy reads and your post is about a paragraph. He lets you know what to do from day one. NO tests No papers! Take him:)

Had him for two online courses. The first (HIST 3600) seemed easy and I got an A. The next (HIST 2500), however, I averaged an 83 and somehow got a C for the class. When I asked about it he said there wasn't a big enough size class to grade on a bell curve (we had 35 students in the class). Its unfortunate because I want to go into a similar field.

I took Islamic History Online with Dr. Spaulding. This was my second online class with him. I feel he is one of the best teachers in the history department. You know what you need to do from A to Z from day one so if you don?t get an A, it?s your own fault. The entire class consists of eleven 5 pages essays. Seems like a lot, but it?s a breeze

This was my first on-line class with Dr. Spaulding and I have to say, you have to do a lot of writing, but overall the class is fairy simple and very informative. Dr. Spaulding is a great guy and will go out of his way to help you. All you have to do is read and write. No formal exams. I would definitely recommend his African History class.

He teaches purely online courses, which at first I did not like, but the way he has it set up will ease any "brick and mortar" students into the online experience. The assignments were fairly long, but very straightforward. I definitely plan on taking him again.

"African History Since 1885" is the second history class I've taken with Professor Spaulding. I simply couldn't ask for a more generous professor in respect to grading and assignment extensions. He's a very knowledgeable individual to his expertise and, if your heart is in it, you'll certainly walk away with learning a great deal of information.

I'm just wrapping up my online course with Spauling. The guy is fantastic. Although it was quite a bit of work, it's a summer class. So, you expect that sort of thing. Overall, great professor. Very, very easy grader. Just a ton of reading assignments and some opinions to swap back and forth. If history was my major I'd take him again. A+

Spaulding's online HIST 1000 class is very easy yet informative. You read cool essays on history, not boring textual crap about Washington and Lincoln, and post your thoughts online. It's much easier and less time consuming online than in class.
