Absolutely amazing and funny. He is a combination of Jerry Seinfeld and Ray Romano. Most of the time you're working in the studio on projects which only leaves basically two weeks of sitting there learning. But even then it's a very fun time. It's a perfect introductory course for television production and I strongly recommend him

A wonderful professor and an all around great person to interact with on a daily basis. He knows what hes talking about, is fair and forthright with his assignments and grading, and a definite stand up comedian in a past life. Start is without a doubt one of the best profs i've ever had

Start has a bad rep for being too easy, but honestly he's a great guy and I love taking his classes. He cares a lot about his students and wants to make sure that they succeed. Being laid back worked well for this course because most of us knew what we were doing with video production, hence pizza parties.

Start is my favorite professor. You'll WANT TO show up to this class, if you dont goof off, and you make him laugh you'll get an A. Quizzes arent his thing, but if you do well enough on the projects and get at least 70's on the quizzes (not that hard), you'll get at least a B.

Due dates were always changing, especially for the final, and he never made in clear in messages that things were changed. You don't really learn anything. I learned how to write better scripts in high school tbh. He doesn't expect much of you,. Since this is my major I would personally like to be challenged at least a little bit.

His class is easy if you actually do the work! which isnt that much because its just project that require your taste. you have to actually read the chapters to pass the quizzes. Also if he messes up your grade you might have to stay on top of him to fix it. Overall he is really passionate and a funny guy. (always give out candy during class)

Dr. Start is a character no doubt. He's hilarious. He hardly ever lectures new material, he has his class set up like a TV studio. Every class is set up like a production which is a really cool. His quizzes are pretty tough, so make sure you read a ton to get a good mark on those. He grades his major products quite easily though. Take his class!!

Jay Start is THE greatest professor ever. His tests are SO short, they're easy to pass and he ALWAYS grades with a curve. The 3 projects are so easy and he helps you through them if you need it. I would love to take him for another class, anddd I switched him to my advisor (which he's also great at) Final test doesn't hurt your grade- only helps!

His quizzes are very very hard, but are curved usually if everyone does bad (which has happened). Basically get A's on the 3 projects (which he is very easy with, even the worst projects still get B+) and you will get a high B or A. Not the most helpful person, but is very nice (and really goofy)

This class is NOT a blow-off class. His tests are tough. But it was a fun class. You will learn more about the history of film than Art Of the Film in the English department. We did reports on directors each week, which was informative. Extra credit is offered, and tests are curved. He sounds like the guy from Penn and Teller!

His tests are very hard unless you study the book. But his assignments are easy. He gets you into hands on things early in the semester. He answers emails in a timely fashion and answered any questions I had.

Worthless, unless you are a good looking girl. I had three classes and did not learn a thing. Had him in 98 and 99 and I see nothing has changed. His Motion pics class is an absolute bore. Don't bother wit the this guy.
