Grades are only through labs so lecture attendance was optional (Online) . Super boring in class and useless outside class hours. Grades on labs depend on your TA. I had no interest in EECE and wanted to switch out but took the class for good gpa. MAKE FRIENDS IN LAB AND YOU WILL DO GOOD. Didn't care to learn but got a good grade from peer help.

Claimed at the beginning of the course that he wanted to get his pass rate up from 70% to 90%. Well he sure did that by being so unhelpful and infuriating that about half of the class dropped the course. The TA'S are minimal help and his lectures consist of him half explaining ideas using terms you don't know because this is an INTRO to the field!

Was zero help and in both lecture and office hours. I ended up only being confused by both him and my TA due to concepts being poorly explained and I had to teach the whole class to myself.

Not very nice if you go to him for help in office hours. Not helpful at all. Doesn't explain concepts well at all.

Super meme-able. Attendance at lectures not needed. Attendance at labs varies according to TA. Labs are super easy if you have a background in programming, if not definitely read up on the MATLAB and Arduino websites. No final, grade is based on 15 or so labs. Overall straightforward class.

Dont bother taking his class if you have no background in programming or engineering. He teaches as if students have a base in this field, but in reality 75% of us dont. Uses technical terms without explaining what they are and continually claims to be "vague on purpose". You wont learn a thing from him, only from peers. TA's are a joke. Good luck.

"Get help when you need it!" *regularly makes students feel like idiots* Pretty much my experience in lectures. Little preparation for labs, which often require working together/giving up. Poor explanations in general. Avoid him if you can.

Intentionally gives vague and wrong instructions, claiming it helps us problem solve. This is supposed to be an introduction to programming. Half the students have no idea what they're doing and the TAs barely speak English. Weitzen "lectures" by reading Powerpoints and going on technobabble tangents about his personal work.

Took Weitzen for Intro to Electrical Engineering. Really a useless class. The MATLAB problems were really detached from the rest of the curriculum, as freshman are not exposed to the topics covered until much later. The circuits were very easy. The TAs are terrible. Basically no rubric so your grade is decided by the TA at a whim.

Had him for 16.107 Intro to ECE. Nice enough guy. Lectures are sometimes pointless and long. No EXAMS, Lab are hard at first and then get really easy. TAs are mostly useless. The Graduate Assistant was the best at helping me get through the class. If you need help he will help you. Overall good experience. I would take again.

Had Intro with Dr. W. His lectures are okay, but most the labs are awesome, albeit pretty challenging. Solving the labs definitely involves collaboration with others sometimes. You don't have to love Weitzen, but the class is great exposure MATLAB and basic circuits. TAs were unhelpful, but not hard to get good grade.

This professor should be used as the definition of a horrible instructor. Definitely does not have the class or authority of a professor. He is never in the office, talks you down real fast and thinks he is above all. What a disgrace .... . Shame on UMASS for having him on payroll.

Warning: Do not take this class if you have no experience in matlab and circuit boards/programming. This professor cannot teach. At least the teacher assistants help you out during lab day. The class is easy if you know how to do everything already.

If you are interested in exploring the application of signal processing and electronics theory, Dr. Weitzen is a valuable resource. If you are merely interested in learning just enough to pass the course, his advice might require too much thinking. He will teach you how to use the tools, but it is up to you to build something out of them.

Outstanding class! I wasn't planning on taking this class, but am super glad I did. The project base approach this class uses and the use of tech in the classroom should be an example to how to teach all EE Grad classes. Dr. Weitzen was always happy to make time to answer any questions I had and to help with debugging code.

Prof Weitzen is a terrible teacher. His lectures are useless, he looses his temper when you ask questions, he hires TAs that don't speak english, and the material is tough if you have never done it before, but will he help you, NO.

He is one of the worst proffessor. His lecture does not help you at all. Also, he is not a nice person so he appears. He pretty much expect us to read the text book entirely and expect to understand everything from it. Don't ever take his course unless if you have to.
