Professor Riley's class was great. Your grade is mainly focused on papers and other writing assignments. She is very smart and willing to help her students. Attendance is not mandatory, and classes are discussion based. She picks interesting book to read, too.

Comment:

While I never took a class with her, she is probably the go-to gal if you need help with class enrollment. She is my major's chairperson, and when professors and advisers never respond back to you because they couldn't give two sh its, Riley responded and helped me in a batter of minutes. Awesome lady.

Do you like slacking? Don't take a Riley class. Otherwise, you're in for a bit of a challenge (which I, for one, think is a good thing) with a rewarding result. Classes are always interesting, and after taking a Riley class you will NEVER turn in another paper with sentence level errors or logical fallacies. And you'll thank her for it.

She's very helpful and keeps class interesting. It's hard but if you enjoy english then you'll love the class. She's down to earth but you still have to make sure your essays are decent. Reading and an essay every week using a new theory. You don't really need the short stories book since you can probably find all the stories online.

I truly enjoyed taking her class, she graded good for the work she gave. she allowed many revisions for papers which helped the grades on your papers go up. The final was a paper due online. This was good b/c you got to leave class early.

Great teacher. Need more like her here at umd. Can be a bit demanding on assignments but they are for our benefit. Gets you to be a critical thinking. She can sometimes assign projects without fully explaining what she wants it to be done. Great for out of class help and advising. Great teacher!!!!!
