The online textbook and quizzes are mandatory. He gives a lot of opportunities to get points. He is clearly very passionate about his subject, so it is typically pretty easy to pay attention and pass with flying colors. There are some repeat questions on the final (from previous tests and quizzes).

Dr. Allender is the reason I am in Geography. He is well traveled and he excited about what he teaches. Just pay attention in class, which is not hard. Sit up front.

I really liked his class and he seemed like a really cool guy. You have to study! The tests are not easy, but study a little every day and you'll do fine. There are online quizzes, but if you do them in groups it really helps. He also gives little written assignments, but they're super easy. Know map locations!! The final wasn't bad.

Very nice guy. Not the easiest class. You have to study a lot for the tests through his lecture notes and reading the book helps. Also, know map locations! There are weekly quizzes over a chapter in the book. You can do them in groups and it helps!

Comment:

I took as a freshman and hated every minute of it. His lectures are boring and it took me awhile to do well on the quizzes. His tests are straight from the notes and then then you need to be able to locate, on a map, whats going on in the world and where. That's what hurt my grade the most. Some of his true false questions are his opinion.

Dr. Allender is excellent. He made me love geography, which I never had an interest in. He knows his stuff and the class is easy. I never took notes, only attended and listened. If you like the Travel Channel, you'll like him. If you're reasonably smart, you'll make an easy A.

Tests are hard. No study guide. I bought a recorder and recorded every lecture, but haven't used it yet. 1st 2 tests were a low B and hi C. Going to listen to the recordings for the final. Pay attention to him on day 1 and study the way he suggests. Sounds like a lot but I regret not doing what he said. Not an easy a.

Tests are hard, he doesn't provide any kind of study guide or insight as what to study. Final is comprehensive so it's LOT. Too much going on for you to really find a point to this class. I wouldn't take him again. Nice guy, funny, just not my thing.

Has a very odd sense of humor but makes the class fun. Online quizes are SUPER easy and take less than 5 min. He does count attendance and gives out mini reports for extra points. Tests aren't too bad except map locations in which the points are currents events he includes in lecture. Take lots of notes on map and in class. Study and its a fun clas

Excellent professor and very motivated to get students to think and learn. Take notes, and read the book. One time he finished 23 seconds early! Otherwise, plan on taking notes til the end. Don't pack up early!

Great teacher i thought he was pretty easy if you actually do your work and read the material. Some students had a hard time in this class but mostly because they were lazy the test were not bad at all. Mr allender is a great teacher and you will learn a lot

Mr. Allender is an interesting man but sometimes I wonder if he even knows what he's talking about. The class is strictly lecture and 14 quizzes online but you get to drop 4 of your lowest grades. You end up reading the entire book. The exams are easy if you pay attention, take notes, and study.

He lectures the whole time, so you need to take a lot of notes. I went into the class indifferent to geography, and by the end I was much more interested. No homework at all. 14 online quizzes and you get to drop the lowest 4. It is not an easy gen ed course, but if you want to take geography then I would recommend him.

I would NOT reccoment this teacher! He is very difficult if you are not a geography major. The tests are very difficult and he doesn't tell you anything that's going to be on it. He is straight lecture with no notes. You have 14 online quizes but get to drop 4 of them. The class was really boring to me and I feel that I didn't learn much.

Nice guy, but would not recommend taking him. Pretty knowledgeable in his field but sometimes makes things up (looked some stuff up & knew some stuff from experience). I have no idea what I have in his class, his grading is crazy. More students than mini-assignments (I got all my points), inconsistent with how many points his tests are worth.

He is a hard teacher but intresting. He knows alot of stuff. He gives 14 online quizes, need book, lets you drop your 4 worst quiz grades. 3 tests that cover: current events, map, lecture, and quizes. optional attendence policy, but reccoming coming to class, lectures are important and many test questions are from lecture

Comment:

Online course. The quizzes are easy, you can use Ctrl+F to find answers if you get the online edition of the book. But the exams (there are 3) which you take in the classroom require you to study. Just looking over your quizzes and skimming the text will probably get you around a C on the exams. Dr. Allender is really nice and understanding.
