Comment:

Offers no real help to his students. When writing your paper, make sure it is something that is for his own opinion and not yours. Heaven forbid you disagree with him. If you do, you will be shut down. Took his environmental science fiction class and can honestly say that almost nothing we talked about in class was about the environment.

Jeff is the worst professor I've had. His ego is immense, only support is his knowledge of Shakespeare. He is not a teacher, he only lectures. Never once did he get out of his seat. Dare to go outside standard paper topics? Prepare to get a bad grade. Opened the semester with - "No one has read all of WS work. But I've read all of WS work." Awful.

Heres the deal with Myers: he knows his stuff. He's very articulate and passionate about what he teaches and his lectures can be quite entertaining. That said, he's a very harsh grader and he gives quizzes every week, which is strange for an English professor. The workload is also very heavy. But you have to take his courses, so you can't avoid him

Feel obligated to defend Jeff, and cannot understand why others are so caustic. Jeff has the only thing you can really ask of a professor: passion. He loves Shakespeare, he knows it in and out, and if he is outspoken about his own critical views at least he admits that others are as valid. Make an effort to like Shakespeare and you will like him.

I'm taking this guy for Shakespeare and 211 at the same time. Big mistake, but necessary. He seems nice so far, but I know his reputation and I'm waiting for him to strike. I've been slightly negligent of the reading so I can't blame him there. No matter what he does when he strikes, I'm not changing my English major, and I'll be ready for him!

An excellent teacher and very passionate and knowledgable. I did not do well in one of his classes but that was my fault. Professor Myers uses the red pen like a sword and will not hesitate to cut you down if you deserve it. Judging from these posts, you all got the sword and deserved it. Professor Myers is brilliant, fair, and subversive.

At first he seems laid back and nice. You get decent grades in the beginning and everything seems peachy...until one day he turns and socks it to you. He's obnoxious, egotistical, and pompous. Oh, and I'm just being nice. Aka don't take his class. period.

worst professor I ever had! have to repeat what he says or you will fail. He knows his material but he is awful teacher. Unwilling to give feedback along the way, hates religion, openly attacks personal matters of students in front of class, I could go on, just awful. As an advisor he told me to change major cause he didn't feel like helping me.

Overall agreement with what's been said. I think he's more open to alternate viewpoints in discussions these days. Still best to agree with him, ideally in a monosyllabic way, in papers. Not very friendly, has his favorites, but funny and insightful. Knows his stuff and is worthwhile once you get past...well, his personality.

Jeff does entertain different (and even opposing) opinions, it just has to be argued well. I think most people who dislike Jeff are poor students, accustomed to less "narrow minded" (read: strong)professors who are willing to entertain poorly founded opinions/work.
