I'm an English major, and I took American Lit 2 from him. He's the best professor I've had so far--very interesting in class, funny, and supportive of students.

I can't understand the reviews below about disorganization. I thought the syllabus was totally clear. And Dr. Gray gives frequent reminders of where we are in the syllabus, what we just covered, what's next, and so on. I got a lot out of the American Lit. class. I'd definitely take a class from him again.

Dr. Gray is one of the most intelligent professors in the department. Hes well traveled, well read and most importantly hes easy to talk to. He can always link a conversation to an interesting article or book he has read. Definitely take him! Pay attention in class and the papers/exams will be a breeze.

Comment:
Dr. Gray is annoying and a bit pretentious. He easily gets off track and most of the class does not pay attention. He is super unorganized and does not always follow the syllabus. He's an okay grader and does not give many assignments, but attendance is mandatory and if you miss class you have to turn in a 2 page assignment on what you missed.

Comment:
Dr. Gray is obviously knowledgeable of his subject matter, but he's extremely boring. He isn't good at facilitating discussion, and often talks for long periods of time about random things that don't have to do with class. The readings on the syllabus were good, and I would take him again if I had to, but he's not amazing. Good flute player, though

He is probably one of my favorite professor. He is so helpful and truly cares about his students. You do read a lot but the material he gives is interesting. Tough grader but he is very welcoming to office hours and will help you out. Definitely take him!

He's brilliant and interesting; the type of person I'd grab coffee with. However, I was so confused in his class all the time. His lectures and discussions are not completely organized, and because he did not stick to the syllabus I never knew what we were reading (at one point we were 3 days ahead of schedule). I did well on his papers, though.

I'm not sure if it's different for non-majors, but for English majors, Gray is extraordinary, an ideal professor. He brings incredible insight to the texts he teaches. Everyone I've talked to thinks he's the best

Had him for Literary Studies. I have never done poorly in an English class and I did not do well on his papers. He never hands drafts back unless you bug him for them and his corrections aren't much, but when you hand In your paper he rips it apart. I don't suggest you take him. He also projects papers on the board which is awkward.

Rambles and is incoherent. A hell of a nice guy but an awful teacher. Is very pretentious (a book snob). Extremely smart but that's about it. Avoid him if you can. An easy A but annoying to put up with (especially when you can't miss more than 2 classes)

If you have the opportunity to take Dr. Gray at the graduate level, you won't regret it. While the class is demanding and challenging - Gray expects that you take literature as seriously as he does - you'll be inspired by the breadth of his knowledge and the creativity of his thinking.

By far the greatest teacher that I have ever heard of or come into contact with. Anybody that finds him boring must have had the wrong guy. PLEASE take him if you ever have the opportunity to...the world would be a better place if there was more people thinking the way this man does!

Really good prof, in 1202 you write like 4 papers and have a few quizzes...otherwise just speak up in class - participation is a must. He responds to his email regularly, so that's the best way to contact him. good guy overall
