Dr. Petersen is a very enthusiastic and caring professor. You will learn a lot in this class, but it is key to pay attention. Labs are easy, but grading criteria is fairly vague. He is a great guy to look up and you will enjoy every moment you get with him if you take his Honors chem class.

Dr. Jeffrey Petersen is undoubtedly an intelligent individual. However, he has flaws. For one, he cannot be impartial. He grades people differently. He is incapable of answering simple questions. Labs reports are very time-consuming. His grading criteria is vague, and often times lacks reasoning behind it. You will learn, but its frustrating

Dr. Peterson was actually a really amazing person to talk to and a great adviser for chemistry. Even though he expects so much from each person, the fact that someone is expecting that much from you helps push you to strive for your best. I definitely believe the lab was the most important part of the class and helped me succeed in my orgo lab.

Dr. Petersen is one of the best teachers WVU has ever had. I leaned more in his class than any other class that I have taken. Many of the things that you learn in his class make other classes seem like a breeze. He's truly a wonderful person, and I couldn't imagine my college experience without him. He was primarily the reason I chose to go to WVU.

AP Chem was a breeze for me, and this class does not reflect that. I do not wish to be a chemist, I only hoped to find a chemistry class where I wouldn't be spoon fed. Because I am not a chem major, I felt disregarded by Dr. P. My questions were not answered and I feel like I was left to hang in lab. His grading criteria is vague and impossible.

Really tough class, so worth it Dr. P prepares you so well for future chem courses Lab is great, much better than regular gen chem labs. Loves teaching, best professor at WVU Not a very good advisor he hates administrative stuff You will make friends for life in this class

i've only had him for about 1/3 of my freshman year, but he's a really great professor. some things can be difficult to understand and he sometimes doesn't explain things in a way you can understand, but if you are in a science-related major and did very well at high school chem i highly recomend Dr. P

Dr. P is the best teacher I've ever had, and as my advisor, he's become a sort of mentor figure. He deserves every accolade thrown his way. He expects his students to achieve the extraordinary, and he helps them get there.

The great thing about Chem 117/118 is the size of the class and the fact that it's 1 of 2 of Dr. P's classes that he teaches. So although it requires a lot of effort and time, he's putting forth just as much to help you and be there to answer your questions. An A is achievable but it requires a great amount of work outside of the classroom as well.

Dr.P is one of the greatest teachers at WVU. But be prepared, his tests are a killer. He very fair on partial credit, but does show bias sometimes. The Labs are the best thing in this class and HW is free points if completed, even if turned in late. Overall one of the best Chemistry and overall professors at WVU.

The person who posted on 5/3 is obviously mistaken. This was the most awesome class. Dr. Petersen is a very fair individual, as well as a fair grader. His work is challenging, but I loved every minute of his class. You don't have to be a "favorite" to do well, you just have to work hard and not expect it to be handed to you. Highly recommended.

If you're a "favorite" in the class you'll love it. I tried to ask him q's and he never gave me the time of day. He graded some students harder than others and was unfair. I'm not bad at chem and one time had practically word for word what another student had as a lab writeup and got 10 points taken off while they got a perfect score.
