Comment:
Despite being a solo project, Professor Sward always gave me a ton of her time on the Friday labs for advice and feedback on my game project. The lectures have a lot of good information, but can be long. The focus on helping senior students prepare for getting a job is greatly appreciated, but I would've loved it more earlier into the senior year.

Comment:
The narrative design class is professor Sward's speciality and it shows. A lot of great information that will be useful if you're interested in developing characters and story in games. Your grade is determined by only a few projects, so be sure to put in the effort to get a good grade. Sward is a fountain of knowledge so ask for help/advice.

Jen Sward is a terrible teacher. She was completely disorganized, didn't care about the class at all, and would show up to class late, consistently. The only positive aspects of her teaching was when she gave feedback to the teams. Other than that she is terrible.

Comment:
I think Sward is a really nice woman, but sometimes she's not always clear on things and, even though she said our programming on our prototypes wasn't going to be a big deal she still took points off. We're BAGD's! Our programming is certainly not going to be as organized as RTIS as freshman, but I felt like it was expected to be.

She has no clue how to teach a class. Expect to spend most of the class time waiting your turn to speak with her... and then being told "you are doing fine." and being told that shes through with you. She arrives late for class and has TA's teach the class. In my opinion this class will be your most useless during your sophmore year.

Comment:
Jen was extremely unprofessional, clearly didn't care about the class, and was extremely arbitrary during evaluation. What knowledge she has of her subject is woefully out of date, and doesn't match her own perception. Finally, she refuses to take anyone below senior level seriously, as she feels lesser classmen aren't worth her time or effort.

I've had her 3 times and she's once shown me that my initial impression of her was wrong. She's lazy, forgetful, unprofessional, and boring. I can't believe her 5 credit class is generally: Show up, wait 20 minutes for her to show, and hear her say that class in cancelled.

Absolutely horrible. Expect to wait 30 minutes after class starts for her to show up. I find it very disrespectful that she won't even show up to teach her classes on time. She does it every single week. For her to be department head is a joke. Her knowledge of the industry next to nothing.

She frequently shows up late and doesn't always remember things. On the other hand, from my personal experience, she helped a lot with our team when things went bad and was generous with her time and worked very well as a mediator. Since she doesn't play much of a role in the class, not too bad.

Poor teacher. She has very little knowledge about the material she teaches. All of the class is taught by the TAs and Sward is very hard to get helpful advice from. She required us to buy several books that we never used in the course.

Not too bad, just not entirely useful. She seems to like games from 10 years ago. We made a metroid game she didn't like because you had to explore. A bit sad.

I am not sure what she did in the game industry but I think she may have been a member of the custodial arts department. She knows nothing about games or game programming. So why not have her teach it.

The "Martha Stewart" of DigiPen. Just close your eyes and imagine Martha Stewart teaching you about the game industry... that's her. "Her" Freshman classes are COMPLETELY organized, taught, and graded by the TAs. Pathetic.
