Comment:

This was a summer online class, and it was easy. Learn the art terminology, and you will be fine. Points come from online discussions, 2 quizzes (easy online), and four different papers that did not take me too long. Clearly described what she wanted in each paper. Has clear deadlines. I highly suggest it online during the summer if you can.

If you think taking this Art Appreciation class is going to be a blow off class, think again. She is a fair grader but, you will have to do some work and show up to get a grade she isn't just handing them out like candy. I am not an art major but, had to take it for my basics. I am happy I did. While I will never be an artist, I learned something.

Professor Terpstra is very passionate about art and teaching! If you show up and do the required work, this class is an easy A. Grade consists of two online quizzes, a couple online discussions, a drawing portfolio, two papers, and a group presentation. I would definitely recommend her as a teacher!

She is the most scatterbrained person I have every met. She is not a strong artist, and acts like her paintings are the best. Because she is not a strong artist, her critiques are worthless. She knows a lot about art history and this is about it. She is the reason why the painting program is not strong at all. Do not like her at all.

Jennifer is one of the most scatter-brained professors i have had! The two quizzes at the beginning are crazy hard. 30 points on 200 page lectures?! too much work for an appreciation class. She takes attendance everyday and the lectures are dry and boring. I'd recommend taking another teacher because she is too hard for an appreciation teacher!!

This class is incredibly boring. I wanted to skip, but she always takes attendance. Getting an A is really easy, but I would recommend taking someone else just to stay sane. She's awkward as a instructor and it's painful to sit through a whole class period.

I thought this class would be interesting because I really enjoy art, but I was wrong. There is a lot of work to be done over the class and the two quizzes in the beginning are putting me on the brink of an AB, which is ridiculous in an appreciation class. If you take her, it'll be okay, but try to take someone else first!

Jennifer is an awesome professor. took her for painting & she rocks! Its a lot of work but it really pays off & she is very encouraging. Seek feedback throughout the process, she will help you get where you want to go. Jennifer is shy but she knows what she is talking about, and is very kind, despite what apprec. ppl are saying.

Jennifer makes you work your ass off, and many people end up hating her... But I think she is an awesome teacher. At the end of the semester when you have 15 paintings completed, you're glad she made you work so hard. (But she can be really harsh, I've seen her make people completely start over on a painting.)

Some people aren't aware of which Terpstra they are reviewing on this site. Jennifer is the bad one. She's a really nice lady, but insanely difficult appreciation class. Hard quizzes that most of the class fails, the project is way too much work and is something I would expect if I were an art major in an upper level class. Bad!

Pretty easy. Tests are easy if you read the material in the book, the lectures usually go pretty fast to get all the material.Pprojects weren't too hard if you try. Writing assignments pretty easy. She grades easy. The people who didn't like her had a negative and cynical outlook on classes in general, she's a great teacher.
