This prof is AWFUL. the class itself is interesting but his methods of evaluation are skewed and he will mark you wrong if you don't reproduce his theories. His lectures are a series of tangents about his own ethnographic research. he never explains his methods of evaluation either so don't take this if you don't have time to learn everything.

Not a very good prof. The material is relatively interesting but the lectures are extremely boring. Relies almost exclusively on the book--lots of terminology, lots of memorization. I would not recommend you take this class unless you absolutely have to!

A very interesting topic; a very boring prof. If you read his book and the coursepack, study well, and have a study group before the midterm/exam, you should be fine. I did'nt go to class during the last month, but if I could have, I would have gone because his repetition of his book makes it seek in. Take it only if you are interested in the topic

The readings are manageable (his book and a course pack) but his lectures confuse you. He manages to make the materials extremely boring. Does not even tell you what would be on the exams. HIGH RISK OF FAILING. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

The social evolution class revolves around his book. I really do not understand why people find this class confusing it really is a classic anthropology class which refers to traditional notions like kinship, exchange, and leadership. He is very open to questions, it is true however that his answers might not always be very concise.

I really, really like this professor. He's got a good sense of humour and tells funny anecdotes and strange (but endearing) jokes. His material is really involved, lots of terminology, but if you do the reading and pay close attention in class you'll be fine. Very friendly and approachable. I found his lectures well structured and interesting!

This course is extremely hard to listen to and learn from. The lecturer is very poor at communicating what he is trying to say to his class. He speaks great English, however overcomplicates sentences and makes the course VERY stressful. Even if you watch the lecture again online, you'll keep rewinding every second to understand a mere sentence!

This teacher is by far the most unclear teacher you will ever have at university. The clarity is so poor and stresses you out. To make things 100x worse the notes he posts require explanation, but when you go to lectures he confuses his own notes even further !

Classes can be really monotonous. However, for such basic material, Rousseau does an adequate job. Expect to hear all about Borneo and his field work. I found the class far more interesting when relistening to the lectures (which are all conveniently online). Do all the readings (coursepack and his notes) and the exams are a breeze.

Great Prof, Interesting class. His lectures are pretty much a recitation of his book, but it's still interesting and that just means the material is even clearer. He has lots of experience in the field and it's really cool to hear about his (actually relevant - not like some profs)experiences. He also makes wierd jokes.

Class average was in the C's, which is ridiculous for a 200 level (this was in Fall '06). Incomprehensible, impossible to do well.

Definitely a quirky man, borderline crazy. His lectures were, at times, rather boring, but if you follow them (and his book), his argument was very coherent and interesting. A brilliant man... and not a hard grader.
