Comment:
Professor Small wasn't the most memorable (or my favorite) professor I've taken at YSU but he wasn't terrible either. I took him in Fall 2012 and received a B in the class. He often gets off topic and goes over material too quickly and doesn't use PowerPointboard notes, so notes taken will often be a bit confusing. Not the worst, but not the best.

Got off topic way too much. Test were way harder than they needed to be. Never knew the exact dates of test, so you would have to go to class just to make sure you knew when the next test would be coming up.

Dr. Small is probably one if my favorite professors at YSU. He is very knowledgeable which you will certainly learn from his lectures because his lectures do not consist of book material only. But the tests will which is the tricky part. Read the book to pass. Learn a great deal from the lectures.

Had him for abnormal psych, got an A. You have to go to class, not for the notes, but so you know when the test is. Very poor syllabus that he doesn't really follow. All I did was pay attention in class, jot down a couple things, and READ THE BOOK. Notes and lecture are supplementary and interesting, but rarely on the test.

He is very unclear at times. He will tell you that the test questions are from his notes, and then they turn out to be from the book.

I learned a lot from Dr. Small. He is a great professor, and very knowledgeable. He covers A LOT of material -- some of which does not appear on the test. It is essential you keep up with READING and really study from the book. Other than that, you should have few problems getting a good grade.

Took his personality class. His vocabulary is so broad that you'd have to be an English major to know what he is talking about. He gets way off topic after every sentence he speaks. Don't take him!! His tests are wayy to hard & doesn't provide a review or study guide.

Took Dr. Small for 2 classes. His ADD is just a minor blip really and he has a funny story pertaining to every topic. Attendance should almost be mandatory in addition to heavy book reading because the tests are mind-boggling. However,he's very helpful, intelligent and has a built-in grading curve to allow for a commuter college student performance.

Um, Politically incorrect in every sense. "wiccans don't belong on higher education establishments" "Obama sucks" "Mania = rampage homosexuality" "YEC kids don't belong in my class" Also, easily off topic, corny, but overall a decent guy. haha.

Gets extremely off track. There is no effective way to take notes in the class because he simply talks for the duration of class. This is hard because he gets off topic a lot and it is very hard to know what to write down. Tests are much harder than they need to be.

Dr. Small is one of the most intelligent professors I've taken at YSU. He'ls extremely knowledgeable in his field, and you will learn a lot. People complain that his courses are hard, and if you want an easy A, don't take him. If you complain about how hard his class is, grow up. This is college. He's a great prof, and you'll learn a lot.

This class was nearly impossible.I got a C on the first test so I bought the study guide, read all the chapters twice and got the same grade. Each test has about 5 chapters on it and most of the questions come from one chapter. Problem is you dont know which chapter to focus on. Lectures were random and note taking was very difficult.

Small is very intelligent but a HORRIBLE professor. He's NOT good at explaining things. His lectures are disorganized and impossible to follow (99% of the time they're not about anything even relevant to the class.) Also, when ?s are asked in class his answers are NEVER clear. He should not be teaching.

If anyone had read the text, they would have ALL had an A in his class since 70% was an A! On his tests he asks sort of tricky questions that you'll THINK you know if you came to class but you will be wrong if you didn't read the text. Which is a good idea, actually. Get out of college if you're not going to read the text.

He does go by the book a little bit but when it comes to his test questions they are worded tricky and hard to understand. His grading scale is curved because he's on probation by the school for failing the majority of his students. He gave us a HARD pop quiz because too many people yawned in one class. Dont take him if you want to keep a good GPA

He's kinda weird but nice. Don't chew gum in his class because it distracts him and he'll embarrass you by making you spit it out. He read straight from the book so I didn't go to class often. I just studied the book and did the workbook and got an A. His tests are decently hard so you have to read the chapters at least once.
