Consider a different professor for Genetics. This guy is a horrible lecturer and expects students to really understand his lectures, thus leading to a frustrating course and bad exams. Then again, genetics is only the beginning of tough courses.

If you do poorly on a test in the future he will not be helpful for improving your grade. Tests arent that bad, he claims exams are based on lectures but reading textbook is only way to understand at level he expects.

During lecture he yelled at a student for asking a question. At least he uses questions from old tests.

This guy is a complete jerk. He will hate you if you're not MCD, and he doesn't care about students. Tests were pretty basic and lecture-based, but always syntactically tricky multiple choice. I easily got an A in the class, but what a waste of time.

by far the worst class i have taken at ucsc. prof feldman obviously does not care about his students and seems to take pleasure in failing them, like he is doing them a favor turning them away from bio so early in their education.

This was the first class I took for the Bio major. Feldman is a jerk who clearly doesn't care about the students in the class--he basically treats it as a weeding session. It might be OK to try to weed out the less serious students in the class but he does it at the expense of turning many other capable students off of biology. Avoid at all costs.

So as much as he sucked for 20A, he made up for it in 105. Clear lecturer (don't count on his board notes, though, take your own) and perfectly paced. Not much help so study old exams bc he recycles them; exams are kind of brutal. But it was a joy to hear him sneeze into his mic. I think he's the cutest thing, though.

He's pretty decent lecturer. You just have to take good notes and have a decent t.a. Work a little and the class is not bad and actually pretty interesting. Not sure how friendly he is in oh since I never went, but seems to willing to help you.

People bash him because they fail due to 20a. He's an awesome prof that knows his stuff and is doing his job. If you failed 20a you should take some time to figure out whether or not you really can be a bio major, 'cause that's his role. Awesome, sucks that he might be retiring

It was seriously not such a hard class, but students are LAZY. The key is to go to lecture and take lots of notes on everything he SAYS not what he writes on the board. His tests are all based on lecture and recycled questions so go to section for old tests as well.

so basically, lectures were pretty boring. he's not that great of a teacher either. sections don't help either. i would try to avoid this guy since his tests are SO HARD! ridiculous. and he doesn't curve. truthfully, it was a horrible class.
