Took this professor for online Calc 2 course. 7 exams, 14 assignments. Assignments are only worth 5% of your grade and the exams are about normal, but all of the questions are tricky to the point where the options in the questions are listed as a,b,c,d but the multiple choice fields below are c,a,d,b. It's unnecessary and you teach yourself.

A lot of this was independent, but that's expected because it's an online class. I would definitely pay attention to the videos and take good notes. He will let you retake a test if you have a valid excuse. He's a nice guy that responds well to emails.

If you take online Math162 with him, please be aware that he does not teach. Answers from email make you more confused. Basicly, you need to study by yourself by watching the video and doing all the practices at Thinkwell. Thinkwell is an excellent source to study math.

He doesn't teach the class. He makes you purchase an online course and you learn it yourself. I guess that is what it has come to for taking math classes online. You have one problem to solve every week and the quizzes in the course are recommended but optional. You would really want to watch the videos and do the quizzes to pass with A.

I took his class online and manage to pass with a B. My advice to you is never procrastinate unless you want to fail his class. Make sure you get these quizzes done, they will help your grades in the long run, even though he doesn't show that he grades them. Believe me.

Be prepared for short responses when asking for help, "see tutor" is his go-to. He is essentially a person on a computer who issues homework via website. Little to no help from him, the exams account for 95% of the grade and ungraded materials like homework and weekly assignments account for 5%, which leaves no little to no room for error.

The class is fast paced. The exams are pretty difficult, but not unreasonable. Prof Gao is really nice and always willing to help during his office hours. Do all the homework every week and you'll be okay. Just listening in class, skimming the chapters, and studying the week before will not cut it.

Great teacher! Very smart and helpful! Always answered my e-mails and phone calls very quickly. My last math class before this was Algebra in high school and I barley passed with a D. Five years later I jumped straight to precal with Gao and got a B. He does wonders.

Allowed me to make up a test (with good reason) even though his syllabus clearly said no make ups. Regular office hours. Heavy website & video use. Basically self instructed, BUT the prof will help you if you want help. I did not deserve the grade I got IMO, the prof gives you opportunity to do well.

The class itself is challenging.Since the class is online, you have to learn by watching videos and reading the book. As a prof., he's an easy going, but sometimes doesn't understand what you're asking, probably due to his nationality or smth, idk. There are 5 exams, 20 questions each. No extra credits. I'd probably take him again, but only online.

Tests are challenging. Wants you to understand. Hes more clear than people give him credit for. rewards your grade if you attend study groups and have good attendance. Hes funny too. One of my favorite teachers, I would have taken him for other classes if the opportunity presented itself. Strongly suggested.

I took his class online in the summer time, and it was HORRIBLE! He puts things on tests that weren't even learned yet, and even if you tell him about it, he pretty much just ignores you. Awful teacher and would not recommend him! I got a B, but the time and effort I put in should have earned me an A.

Dr. Gao, Dr. Gao!!! wow, took him for summer 2 and I must say not the easiest class out there. He is uber funny and gives points for answering questions whether it be correct or incorrect as well as for tutoring sessions.I got an A for his class and a B for precalc.....go figure
