You will read 40+ pages a night. All you do is read/answer questions but readings are hard, boring, and long. you do not have time to finish everything on time but she forces you to have it all done. not a good professor. would not recommend. I asked for an extension she said no. Horrible.

Lots of reading, lectures are fast , very intimidating, Be prepared to read and try to put it together with the test, the study guide does not compare to the test so study hard. On a positive note she will help you if you ask.

Quit your job, quit you relationships, quit with life because your entire existence will be focusing on this one class. Ill admit that her class is quite interesting but man some of her readings are very tough. The one good thing is that there will be no textbook required.

Worst Soc. professor at Cal State avoid her!! She says one thing and does another with grading. I am a senior and she was the worst professor at Cal State I have taken. Her test aren't easy, each test does have essay questions along with multiple choice and not enough time to complete even if you read the chapters right before taking the test!

Im typically an AA- student and I ended up getting a C+ in this class. I work extremely hard and usually am on top of my assignments. When I took this course during winter intersession, I was completely overwhelmed by the assignments and readings. If you take this class with her be prepared to have no social life and to teach yourself everything.

Lectures are supposed to be linked to the test. They're not. Long readings are supposed to be linked to the test, loosely. She''s fun I suppose but becomes boring after constant useless discussion. A really tough grader, even if you have the right answer.

This class was ok, but I don't like that she does not post your overall grade and your in the dark about it for a while...I did not enjoy this class, but other may have. She is ok, workload is doable.

Dr. Weigt is AMAZING! She is really passionate about teaching and does everything in her power to get you to think critically in a sociological way. She cares deeply about her students and you feel like she is invested in your progress. She is available for help and guidance. She isn't easy, but the best professors never are :o)

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE!!! She is so unorganized. You never know when assignmenst are due and you have to check the website at least three times a day just to make sure you have all the deadlines. She doesn't respond to emails so you are better off just taking this class in person and with a different professor.

I think overall Professor Weigt was a good teacher. The readings were very long and if you didn't read them you won't be able to participate in class discussions. Read every article, trust me on this one. The readings for the most part were interesting. It's either or I guess, read the other reviews!

Extremely helpful and approachable. Readings aren't too bad and as long as you skim them, you shouldnt do too bad on the tests. The more you participate, the more she likes you, the better your grade will be. Really enjoyed her class!

It seems like she can't find enough information to lecture about because half the class time is spent asking students their immediate opinions/reactions to every point she makes. You are required to read an excessive amount (about 300 pgs.) of sociological empirical articles that are difficult to understand. She comes off as unprofessional.

Yeah, the course is time consuming, lots of reading and discussion questions due each class, but it is a 4 unit class. She is VERY passionate about the subject and wants her students to walk away knowing more about poverty. She is understanding, and reasonable. Take the class, you will not regret it! Attendance is mandatory, and try to participate.
