Comment:
He's one of the kindest and most knowledgeable professors at Geneseo, and the class was really interesting (but relied heavily on group discussions and textbook readings). The tests were difficult: all essay questions and he grades them so specifically that it's hard to know what he wants from you.

He is friendly, approachable, funny, and loves psychology. Make sure you go to class because he loves in-class group discussions/reports. I struggled with exams because he is very specific in what he is looking for, even though you are allowed to bring notes in with you. It might be worth looking into social psych with another prof.

Dr. Allen is the greatest Professor in the psychology Department. He is passionate about what he teaches which makes it hard not to be interested in the material. He is also very understanding and open to discussion about anything. This professor is one of the few reasons I have remained in college. He is a paragon of what every prof should be.

I enjoyed taking 350 with Allen last summer. The most difficult part was clearly understanding the material we were given. Lots of statistics and charts, which made me lose interest a bit. However, never hesitate to participate, he is very helpful and wants you to understand the material. He isn't scary at all, just an awesome guy with passion.

Pretty much the nicest guy in the department. The subject is really interesting and Allen teaches well, though we were perpetually behind on the syllabus and spent excessive time on some topics and minimal time on others. Class proceeds by study rather than by topic, so that could be painful. Lots of work, hard grader, would still recommend

I honestly don't know if I've learned anything at all. He is extremely unclear with what he expects, and when you ask him to go over something, his answer is always, "y'all should have that in your notes." I don't know if I've ever been so bitter towards a professor before. Heard he was good in other classes, but NOT in 352.

Uses the word y'all way to much to the point where its just ridiculous. The phrase "dont beat a dead horse" fits this class perfectly. He'll go over the most simple topics soo much but then the test is on a specific detail and if you dont include everything in it its wrong. This class really dragged on. Most of it is common sense.

He is just perfect. His exams are hard but if you take good notes in class and read the assigned books you will do fine. If you have problems with the material just go to his office. He is very helpful

Dr. Allen is quite frankly the nicest man alive. He is just a fantastic person to know. His areas on interest are social and environmental psychology, and this class uses a lot of these issues as examples. Really supportive of students and the department as a whole. He is highly recommended.

His exams are difficult but he is fair grader. I didnt really use the book in his class at all. If your not great at math, no worries most of the test questions rely on knowing the logic rather then the computations. Make sure you attend all classes I skipped once and was lost for weeks.

He is a really nice guy, really cares about the students, I felt like i learned alot about statistics b/c he makes you learn all the logic behind the stats, tests are all written, I'd say if you go to class, pay attention, try hard, & put effot in, you can def do well : )

Dr. Allen is a great person but I was not interested in his class, at all. At 8:30 in the morning, it can be difficult to focus. He wants students to print out the studies but for an env psych class, it seems like a waste to me. The textbooks were interesting, I just didn't like his teaching style. The exams were okay, easier w/ the study guide.

Allen is one of the sweetest professors I have ever had. He is willing to do so much to help you understand the concepts he is teaching, because he cares about them so much. I took it at 8:30am, but turns out it was worth it because of how interesting everything was, and how well he taught.

The logic and mechanisms behind stats are his primary focus - computations take the back seat in his class. Expect to write a lot (in English) for his tests. No homework, but there's an in-class activity almost everyday, so come to class, pay attention, and you'll be golden.

Very nice guy, extremely helpful out of class. Looks over paper as much as you want and willing to give comments. Tests are extremely hard as is his grading on papers. Be prepared to not do as well in this class as in others. Still recommend because the topic is interesting and Allen is helpful and nice

Social Psych with him is an interesting course. He always makes absolutely sure that everyone understands a concept before moving on to the next one. He is extremely helpful outside of class. However, he really is a hard grader, so be sure to prepare thoroughly for his tests.

Also had him for Psyc 288 & audited 251 with him. Heck of a nice guy, extremely willing to help explain things in class or outside. His tests are not easy- usually consist of 5 short answer questions (a choice out of 7 or 8). Gives study guides, but is a really critical grader on tests & papers. Be interested in the class & you should do well!

I never opened the book. Mostly because he doesnt look into the math portion of stats. Basically writing an essay in the bluebooks every test. definitely need to go to class to know the definitions. Need to be able to memorize the definitions and how to do certain things and why they are important. regular stats mad easier than this
