Great professor. Engages with students in lecture, and is approachable outside of class time. Extremely friendly. His tests can be difficult (make sure you read the textbook), but if you show up to class and pay attention you will do well. Actually was the prof who made me realize I want to pursue anthropology as a major.

So I'm a second year student at nic and have taken a few courses with Jim. If you have any questions he will encourage you to bring them up in class. He loves archeology and as a result got me interested in archeology even though i already had an interest in ancient history he showed me what it's going to look like in the scholarly world.

Jim is a great teacher! I was not interested in the class at all but he was definitely passionate and knowledgeable about what he was talking about. His tests were fairly difficult, but I thought he was a fair grader. He didn't inspire me like he inspired others but he was a good teacher for sure.

I had the pleasure of taking 4 classes with Jim, I credit him with inspiring me to pursue an undergrad in anthro. A subject I took as an elective on a whim became my life's passion. He has high expectations, but the material is rewarding. My only advice is to wait before buying a text, his notes cover everything and I rarely opened the the text.

A very knowledgeable, helpful, and kind professor. Unfortunately the material in this course bored me to death, but that isn't Jim's fault. He himself is very interesting. If you have an interest in Anthropology I'm sure you will love this class.

The most brilliant man I've ever met in my life. His wide knowledge of so many subjects gave me a whole new perspective on life and made me want to become a teacher to be able to bring that much knowledge and amazing brilliance to different people. I hope you have the chance to at least meet this man and hear what he has to say.

Good teacher. He marks his essays pretty hard though taking a lot of marks off for grammar and sentences he finds awkward. Makes up for it with easy tests though.

Jim is a wonderful Prof. Very brilliant,& humble man. I was very comfortable conversing, & asking questions. Course was easy if you read your text & was present for class. Had "surprise" quizzes, good exams, & one essay. I found him to be very informative on more than just Anthropology & Archaeology. You'll compare all other Profs to him. He Rocks!

Jim's helpfulness is limited only by your enthusiasm towards a particular topic. If you want to write a paper that goes beyond the requirements he will gladly show you ways to do that. Jim really digs Rome.

Not my most favourite teacher, but believe it was more of a personality conflict than anything else. Very smart man - but still wouldn't take another class from him. Fair marker.
