Most comments here talk about how he does not have any accredited degrees, but he actually finished a DMin from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. The class I had with him was not lecture heavy either. But my experience is on seminary level and not freshman orientation.

Zero accredited degrees and zero formal training in counseling and yet he is the "Bible" of counseling at Bob Jones University (similar to what the elder Dr. Hand is in the Bible Department.) Can be nice but is pretty egotistical and self-promoting for his books. His view on women is very outdated.

Jim Berg has a solid mastery of his subject matter and has learned by lots of real-world practice. Good guy, too. Have seen him in different contexts outside the class, and he is real.

Berg is a person who is a life-long learner about Christ. If you don't care about being like Christ, you would not like this class. Basically, the goal is to show you how to evaluate yourself and see how you can improve. Berg always came across as humble and kind.

Dr. Berg mentored a whole network of dormitory leadership in a well refined methodology of psychological torture and manipulation based on the goal of attaining behavioral conformity to a list of criteria by which Dr. Berg determined if his distorted view of God approved of your life by having the same taste in music, dress, vocabulary as admins

I do not believe there is anyone more prideful than this man. He is extremely dogmatic -- if you disagree with him, you will be on bad terms with the school for the duration of your stay. You will automatically be deemed rebellious.

Slick but soulless. Arrogant, incapable of considering opinions different from his own. Those who admire him do so because he offers easy, dogmatic answers. Authoritarian. Also, deeply homophobic. Ruined the education of many students for petty insignificant reasons,such as perceived rebellion, simply daring to disagree with the school's dogma.

I took Orientation and a variety of counseling classes with Berg. I am an agnostic, but while I think Berg has some weird views and would greatly benefit by getting away from BJU, I think he's a real guy. He has integrity, unlike many Christians, and to me that counts for something.

To me, considerablly a third-person since I was not grown up in the environment of the school nor in the country, he was a very honest, humble and wanting to indeed glorify Christ. The ones who don't like him, though some are my friends, seem to have a crookedness of heart and attitude. They need to change their negative way of viewing the teacher.

He has been such a great and godly example as well as teacher and friend to students inculding this foreign one. From here and there I hear negative comments about him. But honestly with a non-biased view with no information about the school and the teacher and when having Berg as a teacher after comming to the school, he is not a fake or cocky guy
