Dr. Cantrill is one of the best professors at Northern Michigan University. It's true he is no pushover, but he is far better than some of these reviews make him out to be. If you come to class, do you reading, and apply yourself you'll have a great time with him. He truly loves his students and wants to see them succeed

By far one of the worst professors I have ever had since being in college. Not only was he extremely difficult, but he is not very good at communicating effectively to his students on a level that they actually understand. I learned nothing of value in this class.

Go to class, apply yourself, and if you need help let him know ahead of time. Jim is not complicated or mean - he is of the "old school" when it comes to students. If you are looking to skate through, perhaps you should rethink why you're in college. Take responsibility for yourself and your work and you will do fine with Dr. Cantrill,

Cantrill is a great professor! Sure his exams are super hard and the midterms make you want to rip your head off, but I've learned more from his lectures then any other course at NMU. GO TO CLASS! If you work hard and really digest the material you'll do well. Plus he's always willing to meet and go over material with you after class.

He makes exams impossible, using ridiculous vocab and sentence structure just to sound smart. After you nearly fail, he curves everything so that you pass anyways, meaning you have learned nothing. Gave our group 9 out of 15 on an exam he "helped" us with. Avoid if possible.

Awful. Tried to sound smart the entire semester. If you can avoid being taught by this guy, AVOID IT. Missing class was nice, but him being awful in the end was not worth it.

Jim Cantrill taught me one thing: "Don't trust anyone but yourself." This was his response to an issue I had with a professor in his department and it was with this advice that I was able to see him clearly as the utterly incompetent, discriminatory, selfish, and indifferent individual that he is. Steer clear of this one; your future is at stake.

Jim is a nice guy but he is not a good professor if you're a lame. If you go into his class be prepared to exert and effort and put in work. If you're honest, and you try, he will do everything he can to help you out. If you **** off and then come to him at the last minute, he will show you no sympathy. Dr. Cantrill is an extremely tough grader, somewhat confusing, and has the hardest exams I've ever taken, but he is a great teacher. I learned more in this class than in any other class that I've taken, and if you actually study hard, talk to him after class, etc..you should do alright in the class.

He knows what he knows very well, interesting lectures. However, he's a very tough grader and not the easiest person to get along with. Lectures about equifinality but if you don't adhere to his ways of thought he probably won't find your answers "clear." Thinks he pushes students to succeed but usually he just down right puts them down.

It seems like most students don't like jim very much. He hasnt seemed that bad so far, i mean his grading is tough. He has very hard tests and pop quiz's (which suck) but on the plus side he has great lectures, and knows a lot about communication

Jim Cantrill only asks questions he knows the answer to. He will refuse any answer except the one he has in mind, regardless of how viable other options may be. He insists on using long strings of $10 words to ask his test questions. By doing that I felt like he was trying to prove to himself and everyone in the class that he is smarter than us all

This man is not reasonable. He gives exams that are 4 questions long and you'll need a dictionary to decipher his questions. Asked for more help and he rolled his eyes and blew my off. Really unprofessional with all the swearing, NOT COOL!

tough but knowlageable prof. His classes are interesting and he is very entertaining. Tests are pretty rough but you just have to go the extra mile and take good notes. Tests make you think hard and mesh concepts together. If you are looking for a slack off class look elsewhere, but if you want to challenge yourslef and learn, take this class

Let's just say I am an A student and received a D+ in Dr. Cantrill's class. I went to class every day and studied for his tests but they were EXTREMELY hard. He is a great professor, very knowledgeable, however be prepared for a TON of studying if you want to get a good grade. He is a nice guy, but is a harsh grader. Good luck with him.

Tests are so hard, if you don't study A LOT you will lose a ton of points. If you miss class horrible things will happen and although he's chill to talk to, he's a **** teacher and for a 100 level course it seemed like i was going for my masters.

Jim Cantrell is a great professor. He's a very laid back guy who explains things very well. He offers good constructive criticism of your speeches. As far as work goes, you do have to do quite a bit of reading and the tests are hard, but if you follow the advice he gives and do the reading, you'll get an A.
