He is an awesome teacher. Weekly HW comes straight from notes in class and test problems come from HW as well. 3 in-class tests, 2 take home and the final. Sometimes goes too fast but will slow down if you ask him to. Definitely recommend him for anyone having to take this class

This teacher is pretty good if you learn mostly by attending his class. If your the kind of student that needs extra assignments and questions; he is not the teacher for you.He gives 5 problems a week which are easy and great to finish but you just dont learn alot outside of class. Exam consist of the same problems from previous tests.Rate him a B

JD is a great teacher. Easy to understand and will take the time and effort to help you understand the material. Also has quirky analogies for just about everything. Some gets chuckles, others get groans. Assigns weekly homework and tests are a bit challenging but as long as you come to class and pay attention, you'll have no problem.

Deveney is great! weekly homework from text, two inclass tests, two take-home tests, and a final. overall class was easy (even the final) and yet you learn a lot. absolutely no stress. he can talk a bit fast but just point it out and he will slow down. GREAT!! take him if you can.

Professor Deveney is the best! He's funny and smart. He's got an analogy for everything. He's a great teacher. He's the only reason I took 351--well that and to get my Minor, but that's why I took 351 over others like 301.

Easy to understand. Uses lots of analogies and examples to help learn the material. Keep up with the homeworks and study for the tests. He does challenge you a little bit on the tests, but you have all the resources you need and plenty of time to finish. Overall, a great guy.

Man, is he fantastic! He's funny, he's interesting, and he's extremely smart! He's a Boston Red Sox fan and was always happy to talk baseball with this Cubs fan -- he's very easy to talk to and very friendly. I highly recommend taking his classes.

I really enjoyed Deveney's course in linear algebra. I was rather burnt out on mathematics after differentials, but Dr. Deveney kept things intresting and explained how what we were learning applied to my major. Awesome!

Dr. Deveny is a rare prof in that he does good current research and is a great teacher ... many are good at one or the other. He loves math (particularly algebra) and cares about student's understanding and their grades.
