Very bad at explaining things, but he's willing to give help outside of class. Tests are difficult because there is always something new that hasn't been covered, and you have to figure it out on the spot. Projects are easy if you start early and seek help with debugging. No reason why you can't get 100% on labs/projs. I got a low A.

Jim is a smart, cool guy but teaching is not his strong suit. I've had him for 260, 327, and soon 427 and 460. For 260 I needed to really read the book to learn because his lectures left you more confused (especially pointers). His tests and assignments aren't bad, though. If you keep up to the material with the book, you'll be good.

The class itself is inherently very hard. Must read the chapter before he explains it in class. He and frank need to share teaching styles. All jim does is explain and doesn't run any examples in class, where frank is the opposite. Tests are hard to understand. Will give projects and put stuff on tests that he hasn't covered in class.

If you like to pass classes, don't take this guy. He's a nightmare incarnate. Once you drop to an F, that's it; you're gonna fail no matter what you do, so try to stay on top of your work. He grades harshly and has no sympathy, which would be all right if the tests were understandable, but they're not. Stay away!

its so hard to comprehend his teaching style, Im surprsed at these good ratings when theres lots of peeps that drop the class only to enroll when he's not teaching it and the class was rated by UL as the hardest for a couple of years in a row!....dont be decived by these comments cos u heading for a disaster
