Just like any other professor, if you do what is asked of you, you will do fine. The major dilemma in this class is that it is painfully boring. The abstract concept is unamusing and hard to grasp. He is a smart man but an awful professor. I go to class every day trying to obtain something he is lecturing about, yet fail miserably every time.

All I have to say is he teaches this class as if you are in a graduate program. He doesn't answer questions during class. Going to his office hours are a joke, same with his TA. He wants you to remember all this information, and when you can only remember some of it he degrades you. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, I'm warning you.

This class sucks. Take learning psych instead and just avoid this headache of class. I learned nothing because I couldn't force myself to pay attention to his horrible lectures and couldn't study properly because of the bombardment of information. Also, get ready for impossibly hard clicker quizzes almost every class that count as a test grade!FUN

Took this class last semester. Bc Neely is diligent in this area of study he makes this course EXTREMELY more difficult than it needs to be- he should NOT be teaching undergrad. Lectures were completely unbearable. Reading the text is crucial. Although I did well these were the hardest psych tests I've ever taken at UA. Complete word games.

As a 4.0 student, I wouldn't recommend Neely. The material, although challenging, seems as though it could be taught way better. His slides are a mess. His questions are ridiculous, they're basically riddles at times. The most boring and unbearable class I've ever taken. Gives iClicker quizzes every class.

The material is hard. The tests are difficult, and they really are word games. The papers are tricky because the instructions aren't clear enough. He kind of expects everyone to be experts in APA style. He is very helpful if you go to his office hours.

Read, read, read the textbook. His class is unbearable and super boring. Even if you write well on all the papers you've done in other classes, it won't be enough for this. The grading is confusing, and its more of a higher level grad class the way its taught. There is extra credit but it won't be enough to help you. Attending class is essential.

Don't even know where to begin with this class. LECTURES ARE COMPLETELY UNBEARABLE. Although Professor Neely is brilliant, he should not be an undergrad teacher. He makes things so much more complicated then they need to be. Test are a word game. Can do exactly what he asks of you on the papers and still receive maybe a 70.

Professor Neely is very smart but his class can be a little overwhelming if you are not a student who reads the textbook and takes good notes. If you''re like me and you skip from time to time definitely go to his office hours He is so helpful and will break it down for you better. To pass read the text and always ALWAYS bring your clicker.

Great class if you want to challenge yourself and grow as a student. Gained a better understanding of how to conduct/interp research from this class than from experimental. Lectures move fast, but the majority of the material is in the book, tho presented differently. Can get lost if you don't do the reading before class. GOOD notes are critical.

While he is the single best professor for cognitive psychology at UAlbany, do not take any classes with him lightly. He is very intelligent and expects his students to be as well. Clicker points and curves are a huge help in here, because his tests are word games. Luckily, getting 2/3's of the questions right still gets you an A sometimes.

I got an A in this class, but it wasn't easy. Spent hours reviewing the lecture slides and reading/taking notes from the text. His questions make no sense and he contradicts himself constantly. If you aren't motivated and not willing to work REALLY hard, I would recommend taking a different course or take this one with a different professor.

the class is very difficult and Neely tries very hard to teach it. He gives more than enough of a curve and wants people to do well in the class. If you don't want to work for your grade don't take this class

Neely is too intelligent for his own good and often moves too fast for his class. But he's very understanding and gives INCREDIBLE curves -- you can fail an exam and still get an A on it. Class is definitely boring, though. Gives clicker quizzes almost every class, sometimes two in one, so you need to attend.

It has been a few years since I took this class with Neely, and I STILL tell people about what a horrific and completely infuriating experience it was. Take the class at another college if you have to - otherwise there's a good chance you'll have to take it two or three times under Neely (which he is happy and proud to tell you).

The hardest classes in the Psych major are said to be Statistics and Experimental Psych. Not the math genius, I had to bust my gut to do well in those classes and returned 2 A's. I did almost twice that work in Neely's class and was lucky I got a C!

My GPA is 3.7 This guy just makes things really difficult for the students because he wants the Psych major to be taken more seriously. Its a selfish spectacle and in fact, the entire PSY department at UALBANY can be characterized by this attitude, w/ him and a few others, having a distorted sense of pride for teaching undergrads. Get real.

With 100% certitude I have logged onto this site to warn people away from taking ANY class with this guy. Smart man, but could learn from what they say about Doctors loosing touch with the vernacular of the general population. His tests are word games, knowing the material has 0% effect on tests. Ruins GPAs to keep Psy hard and self aggrandize.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS MAN. His classes are unbelievably boring and his tests are ridiculous. Understanding the concepts has no correlation with your test grades. He words the questions so that you do not even know what he is asking. His reviews are not helpful and he is completely unreasonable. Horrible teacher.
