She has a definite command of the subject. However, I thought the grading was harsh. Moreover, we had to perform a sketch--which seemed a little inappropriate for an upper division class.

STAY AWAY! Prof. Cadden knows her material, don't get me wrong, but that doesn't mean you can teach. She is boring and repetitive. She forces us to do group projects as if we are in elementary school. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE!

Horrible class mostly because of Cadden. Impossible to take notes off her lectures, an absurd amount of reading, a lot of which was irrelevant, grading methods were completely unfair, forces the class to do groupwork and homework assignments like we're back in 7th grade, overall the class was a useless waste of time. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!

I liked this class because the subject is really interesting. The professor is obviously very passionate about the subject she teaches, however the lectures can be a bit boring. A lot of reading, but as long as you do it, you'll do fine in the class. Good GE class.

VERY intelligent; clear lectures, however a little boring. Pop quizzes can be difficult, but definitely keep you caught up with the reading. Know the main people of the time period and their significance and so forth, and make sure to know the different images she shows during class. Even came in to section once to check how TA was doing.

I have always loved medieval history, so I took her class. HUGE MISTAKE! No doubt, she knows her subject matter, but she seems incapable of imparting her knowledge on to us. Undoubtedly THE WORST lecturer I've experienced. Highly disorganized, vague, and uninformative. Take Sally McKee instead.

Her lectures can be kinda dull (especially late in the day, they can be sleep-inducing), but she is not as bad a lecturer as many other people have said. She is very intelligent, very clear, and is confident in her knowledge of the subject. She is very good with her TA's, who are very good resources

Joan Cadden is a good teacher, if you're not male. I've had several male friends that she has turned into Student Judicial Affairs for misquoting texts or not using the proper format for bibliographies. She once turned in two students to SJA when their papers for their GROUP project shared ideas. .

it simply does not get any worse! quit reading off your notes so much; i agree with the earlier posting, TAKE A PUBLIC SPEAKING CLASS!!! or perhaps Communications 1 may be the appropriate class for you, don't miss out on this golden opportunity

Cadden is very knowledgeable and incredibly hard-working. She asks a lot from students but is very helpful and concerned about us learning. The tests r easy b/c she gives u choices w/id's and essays. A reasonable amount of reading.

Her knowledge is extensive however her lectures do lack excitement. She needs to take a public speaking course, she reads from her notes too much. I didn't want to be read to, the text book was ten times better than lectures.

I love history, but her lectures lack energy and she reads off of her notes too much. The class relies a lot on the textbook. However, she is extremely knowledgable, but I will never take another medieval history class again.
