Comment:

As a person is very nice, but as a teacher, I could no say the same. I took an "ESL" class with her. She did not have any experiences teaching to ESL students previously (This is crucial especially if English is not your first language). She thinks that everyone needs to show the same level of knowledge as her.

Comment:

I enjoy writing and English classes, but THIS CLASS IS TERRIBLE. She is so unclear on the assignments. Half the class disagrees with almost everything she says. She constantly calls people out in class and makes them feel stupid. There is an ungodly amount of papers, basically one writing assignment due everyday if not more. Absolute worst teacher.

Explanation sounds terrifying, and 1/2 the class dropped day 1! I'm glad I stuck it out. It's very technical, but you get what you give. We had a small but fantastic group that was open to discussion, and honestly became one of my best classes to date. Dr. Latchaw may seem intimidating, but she's really sweet and helpful if you ask for it! No book!

Comment:

I really like Dr. Latchaw. She was always willing to help us with things we didn't understand and papers we didn't quite have good enough yet. She was always understanding of me missing classes or being late, and was overall a very helpful an understanding woman. I don't know who the rest of these raters were rating, but it wasn't Dr. Latchaw.

Dr. Latchaw's class is not easy and at first her instructions are quite confusing. She is great once you ask her for help. She had no idea she was confusing the class and made sure her instructions were clear from that point on. She also will let you resubmit work for a better grade, she really wants you to succeed.

She gives no clear instructions, changes assignments criteria AFTER she assigns them, and I always end up mad/ confused at the end of her class. I have also written more papers in her class than I have for a whole semester in all of my other classes. If writing is not your thing, this class is definitely not for you.

i think if you are lazy an uniterested this is definitly NOTthe class for you. It's challenging in the best way. inovative assignments, and a smart lady. she can be a bit crass at first, but it's not personal, and genuinely wants you to succeed and be a scholar. highly recommend.

Dr Latchaw's class was very painful to take. She has unclear expectations for her students and constantly contradicts herself. Spending and hour and 15 min. with her is torturous! She is extremely rude to her students and embarrasses her students infront of others in the class. Her teaching style is plain aweful. However, I got a B+ in her class. The class its self is not difficult, but putting up with the teacher is.

UNO is fortunate to have this quality professor. She proficiently teaches a variety of subjects, helping students who actually WANT to improve. While yes, her courses are not easy or for the lazy, they aren't easy subjects and she oversees them in a what that is both fair and knowledgeable. NOT for people just wanting a community college education.
