I was very excited to study with Waugh. She is an expert in her field! Her lectures always stay on point, very well organized. Very detailed website with extra materials. Readings seem useless during the quarter, but you NEED them for the paper and take home final.

Nice enough professor but she has some odd requirements. Papers must be exactly to length - no more, no less than the pages assigned. Midterm was insane and no study guide - exam had short answers/multiple choice plus 2 essays in 1.25 hours. Sheesh.

Her Civil War class was the best class I've ever taken. She uses every type of teaching tool- lectures, viceos, music, handouts, so she hits every learning style. Plus her website is incredible. It is a lot of work, and she does expect a lot, but I think it was totally worth it.

Her class was engaging. She used many different formats to get her point across in lecture and made (what seemed to me) a dull period in American history very interesting! As long as you take good notes and read over them, you're gold.

took her for both civil war and gilded age. she's a nice woman, she'll make time for you if you seek you out. material is very general, nothing terribly original or new. also, grading is very much based on your ability to regurgitate, if you attempt to offer an actual argument or critique, it's an A- for you.
