He is very knowledgeable and expects a lot from his students. You will read and write a lot but your writing and critical reading skills will increase because of it. You will learn a ton of information and will become consciously aware of the many issues within the education system. Work hard, adhere to his feedback and comments and you will pass!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The work is outrageous and his grading is rough! He will assign a discussion on a Sunday & it is due on Wednesday. You are asked to respond to two people, but you have to respond on TWO different days. SO DUMB. He opens the quizzes on Fridays and they are due on Sundays! I got a B, but I put in a lot of work.

So much reading, and online discussions (with unexpectedly floating due dates) were useless. He changed due dates so often without warning. Responded very rudely to my one email question. Avoid.

Comment:
I am taking the online version of his class, and he is VERY hard to follow. Assignments and expectations are very unclear. Online weekly modules were opened on Mondays and we only had until Wednesday to read several journals articles, write one or two of our own posts, and then comment on classmates' posts. Very vague criteria for assignments.

Comment:
He opens modules on MON, you have until WED to read 100 pages of dense philosophical journals and make a discussion post with quotes. Then you have two more days to comment to others also with quotes and the posts have to be made on different days. Too specific. Not enough time to do work. Material is all over the place and hard to read. AVOID HIM!

I thought this would be a breeze since everything was explained in the syllabus. Until he would alter things with no warning. Extremely rude with comments and talking to students. Lots of work to do in a two day span. Very indecisive about discussions. Final paper was optional if you scored good on first two! READ DISCUSSION QUESTION SECTION DAILY.

Comment:
Online class. Comments and feedback from the professor were condescending. The professor did not put time into creating the online modules. Discussion boards prompts were close-ended and not useful. Difficult to 'move discussion forward'. Upon completion, I do not feel that I have the necessary skills to execute a qualitative research study.

Shows a complete disregard for his students. He throws a whole bunch of reading and writing assignments and gives no direction--I am self-teaching myself the information! He's a very particular grader with lots of rules for someone who likes to "keep things flexible." He does not care about students and has no respect for them as individuals.

This is without a doubt, one of the WORST professors I have ever had in my life. (I have had over 40!) He is very confusing and left the entire class confused usually. Nobody knew what they were doing. You asked a question to clarify and he'd repeat himself or reword it slightly different. He expects you to do a LOT of work in a 3 day deadline!!

The content of this course was interesting and the knowledge of Dr. Bishop as a professor was above average. The workload seemed fair if not slightly less than previous courses I have taken. However, the expectations that were outlined in my online class with this professor were extremely poor and many students' grades suffered because of this.

Joe was a fantastic instructor and provided a lot of information to assist the students with formulating their own opinion on the importance of democracy in the classroom. This continues to be an important topic to discuss and the text books required provided appropriate view points.

Dr. Bishop is smart but he doesn't seem to want to hear anyone else's opinion, especially if they don't coincide with his own.

This should be a three unit class, since there is a lot of reading and application. You must read all the articles and be able to articulate the main points. He is a good teacher except he comes with his own bias and doesn't hesitate to share it by all the readings and discussion comments. The material is all one sided.

I liked this guy, you have to work hard but umm this is university and a COE class, so get your stuff together and do the work. Lots of readings, discussions and writing but that's the course standard, not so much him. Responds fast to emails and always willing to help. You'll learn a lot with Joe.

Dr. Bishop was a great teacher! Who said there would be less work for a Spring class? That's the whole idea, do it fast and get it over with. If you were someone who was late everyday walking in with a coffee you got whatever was coming to you. Treat others as you would want to be treated. He could smell a faker from a mile away. Interesting class.

Putting a 16 week class into 6 is going to be hell to begin with. I actually thought Dr. Bishop was a good teacher. He even boosted some grades at the end so no one would fail. That seems pretty nice to me. Yes, he is a bit out there but he was very easy to talk to. All you had to do was give him a little respect and he did the same for you. Easy A
