Very interesting and engaging class! He does randomly call on students to participate. 3 tests, that are cumulative. One extra credit paper for 10 points on final grade. I would recommend, loved going to class just to hear his stories and lectures.

Professor Gorton is amazing! I always wanted to show up to class to see what we would do/talk about that day. You are graded on a few exams and attendance/participation with a chance for extra credit due at the end of the semester. He always made class interesting and truly cares about his students. Very personable and funny - take this class!!

He is awesome! He has a personal story for everything and he is so funny- I learned A TON from his class. Very discussion based. Attendance is mandatory, but honestly I looked forward to class. Three tests for the class and that's it, no homework or papers. He gives study guides for every test. TAKE GORTON!

He doesn't take attendence..material is kind of hard, but as long as you do the study guide and study it, you'll do fine on the tests..grade based only on 3 tests though which stinks

He was an awesome prof. Funny and interesting guy and I didn't even like or care about this subject before taking it. I learned so much. Tests are EXACTLY what's on the study guide. He offers an extra credit project or paper too. Miss 3 classes though & you fail.

You must go to class or you will fail. Hes also terrible with replying to email. Other than that, hes an interesting prof. He is ALWAYS right and tends to teach from his point of view. His exams are hard but he gives a study guide which is helpful. Know the stuff on the guide and you should be ok.

Gorton knows what he's talking about and will help you. There is significant reading, but he makes it easy to take great notes, gives study guides, and you learn a lot. He is pretty funny and jokes constantly to keep his classes interesting. I've taken his Sociology of policing and Crime and Public Policy, both good.

This class was unusually challenging for a soc class, but very rewarding if you are up to it. For anyone interested in criminal justice administration, this class is a must-take. Probably the best class I have taken at UNI.

Good Teacher and very helpful. He is always right:) but does let you speak your piece! Very important to be in class since he does lecture on material outside of text. I enjoy sociology so it was fun and I did well despite lack of studying. He talks about getting "Krunk up in the club" so enjoy the class.
