After making a remark summing up the purpose of the entire class, his response was "you're getting an A". Well, I didn't. I am certain he confused me wth another individual with the same first name. That aside, I enjoyed his class immensely. He was inspiring. You have to be in the right time of your time to recognize and appreciate a sage.

ALSO, he has lived a life that is far more exciting than most of you, full of stories and experiences that will never be understood by University student know-it-all's. I bet that more than half of the people giving bad reviews just sat in the back, never spoke up and went on facebook for the majority of class time. Chill out. He's a good human.

Jeez, people. This man is an intelligent and passionate person. Any of you saying anything bad about him just don't understand how to learn and listen. Students have such a strong sense of entitlement these days - sit down, be quiet and LISTEN. You may learn things you never knew by actually LISTENING. Not just typing everything down. Go Joe!

He is a hypocrite. He doesnt give students and sympathy and is totally unrealistic. He has his degree from 'harvard' so you should never challenge him. Absoloutley NOT helpful in the slightest. If you have him. Drop the class, Avoid him at all costs. Stay and extra semester if you have to but run far!

He is a hypocrite. He complained daily about York having paper towels in their bathrooms when one can use their pants to dry their hands; however he came in everyday with a Styrofoam cup of coffee. He loved to bring up that he did his masters at Harvard (many, many times), so much for being a poster boy for experience education. I know that the faculty had to take thesis students away from him because he missed their deadlines.

The WORST Prof. in the graduate program! He LECTURES to grad students and then deducts marks because you don't participate in his class. If he doesn't like you, you're completely screwed. He assigned 5 full non-fiction books (and threatened to ostrasize you if you didn't finish the readings) plus a 25 page essay for a two-week course. AVOID HIM

This man is an absolute goombah.He has no communicaton skills.He failed me on my thesis when I wouldn't print the words he wanted. He told me to write about my belief in fairies without ever asking me if I believed in them.My proposal was to complete an analysis on cultural diversity in the Ontario Public School curriculum. He would arbitrarily single people out and make it nearly impossible for them to participate in class. Even if you tried hard to produce good-quality work, if he didn't like you, your marks would suffer. Bad-tempered, sour and nasty prof. An experience so awful, it'll take years to erase. After 4 yrs this is the only class I WISH I hadn't taken.

If you want a challenge, a highly reccomended prof. Difficult readings and material to work through, both in content and what it asks of the student. However, patience and a willingness to see where it takes you is very rewarding. Not reccomended for people not wanting to challenge their assumptions about reality. Very underated prof.

unsung and misunderstood at york. gruff and demanding at first so hang in there. this guy's the real thing - part hobo, repentent settler, neo-vagabond. he'll open doors where you never thought there'd be any. stick it out and he will show you a worldview neglected in academia. a zen master.

Very unhelpful, occassionally intimidating. He always complained about the low amount of class discussion but discouraged expression of thoughts and opinions that did not support his own.
