This man is brilliant. If you enjoy intellectual discussion about existentialism, issues concerning diversity and oppression, take this class. One must have an open mind to digest the mass amounts of information that he will lecture. He is very engaging as well. He did also say he was retiring so he's giving us all A's at one point. :D

Dr. Young can be very extreme and strict, but you'll warm up to him. As long as you are open to his views and don't voice your disagreement with him you will be fine. He's very intimidating at first, but during office hours he was helpful and kind. This class is what you make it; Dr. Young is so knowledgeable about African American history/racism.

At first, this guy scared me. He doesn't seem very nice at first, but once he warms up to the class he is fine. Not going to lie, this class is hard, but you learn a lot. It took me a while to start getting good grades, you need to write in a certain way to satisfy him. Attendance is mandatory so don't think you can skip. Overall hard class.

Personally, I really enjoyed Dr. Young's class. Some may say he's a little out there, but I learned a lot from him. As long as you do what he says and don't slack off you will do just fine. Some of the papers are a little long, but he gives you plenty of time to do them and allows time to peer review them in class. I would definitely recommend him.

Dr. Young is by far the WORST professor I've ever had. Say one thing that goes against what he believes? Expect to get a C or less in this class. He also says more than enough inappropriate comments about females and is VERY unprofessional. I am very confused as to why UWL wants him to be associated with the university.

If you want to actually learn something, and not just memorize information for tests, TAKE HIS CLASS. His office hours are where you can lighten his attitude towards you. If you attend his office hours you will show him you are putting the effort in, and he is a lot more relaxed- ONE on ONE. Definitely a class I won't forget, participation counts!

Here's the truth of the matter: he's very passionate about what he teaches. He's extremely intimidating at first, so beware. He doesn't take opposing opinions well, but he is willing to look at things from different angles. He's demanding and seemingly inconsiderate, but I assure you that he lightens up after a while. You'll learn a lot.

You can not understand what he is saying half of the time because he talks under his breath and mumbles. If you have a hard time hearing as it is do not take this class.

Dr.Young is very outspoken. He tells it like it is. Overall I learned a great deal from him. Took him for ENG 110 as well and it was difficult but I see now why he gave us the assignments he did. Attendance is important and if you pay attention you will gain a lot of insight from his class. Very interesting and he has a good sense of humor.

This course is not easy-- I will say that right off the bat. But while this class was one of the most challenging in my 4 1/2 years at UW-L, the insight I gained makes it entirely worthwhile. This man tells it like it is, and if you haven't thought much about white privilege and other social injustices, you are about to start. Great professor!

Easily my worst professor this semester. Over all you learn a lot over the semester because he hammers the ideas into your brain, but it's hell when you're in it. If you really need to correct your writing style get him. If you think your writing is even remotely good avoid him like the plague.

Dr. Young is an intimidating professor at first. Yes the assignments are difficult, but as long as you do the work things will go just fine. No final exam if you show up for every class and turn in your assignments on time. He will make your other writing assignments feel a lot easier. He seems to have lightened up toward the end of the semester.

Dr. Young was one of my favorite and most respectable professors I had my first semester at LAX. Yes, his class is challenging, he is very opinionated, and he makes you participate. However if you take his class with an open mind it is more than worth it. Cannot say enough about the information I learned while in his class.

This man is a genius. He is opinionated and sometimes intimidating but if you have an open mind, you will learn so much. I took more away from this class than any other class i've ever taken. The class is challenging but that's what education is supposed to be. If you want a class where you actually have to work for your grade, i highly recommend.

He is helpful when you ask him questions, although he does tend to talk fast and go on about weird things. The text book is used as study material for the tests, which he lets you redo for a passing grade. You can only miss three classes, but I wouldn't suggest going over 2. His class is pretty fun, a lot of in class discussions.

Wow. Dr. Young is an intense prof and challenges you in everyway. Do the readings on the first day if not he will call you out and make you look like an idiot. It's also better to tell him that you did not do the readings rather than trying to B.S. your way through this. If you can't Sparknotes is a good site to use. Tests are designed to fail you.

I hated this class! The papers we wrote were useless and did not accomplish anything I told the professor I'd like to work on. He was unclear and extremely one sided. Even if he said your paper was well-written, he'd give you a C. There are better professors for this course. I will not be taking any course with this professor again.

Dr. Young is an amazing professor. The content of the books used in this class is beyond interesting and for people who are oblivious to the reality of United States history, this class is a necessity. Dr. Young is extremely knowledgeable and if you keep your mind open to the logic revealed throughout this course you'll thoroughly enjoy it.
