Be prepared to do a lot of vocabulary homework. It can be a little overwhelming and a weird way to learn the class. I felt like I had to teach myself the class but oh well. Overall Dr. Cohen was very nice and understanding. The closed book exams are tough. All of the other unit exams are all open book.

Dr. Cohen's class wasn't difficult, but he is quite difficult to be around. He seems angry much of the time, and got incredibly off task during lecture by sharing his personal opinions. He had us take a "scientific literacy" text with true/false statements about global warming and said every statement was false, and criticized religion all the time

okay he's a nice guy. it isn't a crazy hard class. but if you're looking for an engaging interesting psychology class DONT take his. we do vocab each week for hw, then our lecture is going over the vocab. no interesting discussions... then open book quiz on vocab each week, then test covering all of it. not an interesting class. verydisappointed

80+ definitions for homework every week. Plus an open book quiz on those definition. 3 major exams on 200+ definitions from previous weeks, closed book. But he averages your quizzes and exams so you don't fail the class. So the hoemwork and quizzes are easy points but the exams are really hard. Reading the book and doing the definitions helps.

I took him for my Intro to psych and child development. He's a great teacher, although he goes off topic a lot, and gets easily distracted he's a good guy! Lots of terms (homework, which he gives you full points without checking) open book quizzes, and 3 closed book tests. He averages the quizzes and hw so if you bomb all tests, you'll still pass

I ABSOLUTLY LOVE Cohen. He has been my favorite instructor at occ. I took 3 classes he taught because he was just that good. He's so funny and talks about experiences related to the subjects which help. Easy vocab and is always willing to help. Tests can be hard but open book quizzes each week are simple to pass if you have your vocab and book!

Doesn't stay on task. Makes class about his opinions often making remarks cutting down gays and trans people. Lectures are never really about the material you need to know. 100 vocabulary words a week is ridiculous for a intro class

Dr. Cohen does not do email and was not always very good at returning my phone calls. There were no tests in this course, though, and we would watch movies every other week and were only being graded on definitions: 5 terms would apply to the movie, and 15 terms would apply to real life. Try to only take him as little as possible.

What you see on the first day is what you get. Open book quizzes every week and 3 tests in total. Tests are averaged with quiz scores. He makes it clear that the way this class runs is- you learn it on your own and ask questions in class. He's a nice enough person but lots of sex references and highly opinionated. Don't take if you are sensitive.

Dr. Cohen is an amazing instructor. His classes are very fair and he follows the syllabus. There are open book quizzes every week, easy-ish points there, and the homework is time consuming but necessary to pass the class, easy points there, too. The closed book tests are tough, so it is essential you really read.

I liked Dr. Cohen, though he was very very tough. You have to be able to commit a LOT of time to his class or you will not succeed. Definitions range into the 100s as homework. I believe I was one of only two students in the class of 22 who received an A of any sort. I had an A-.

All he basically does is lecture. You take a quiz every week but it's open book and notes. When tests come around it's closed book tho. Honestly felt to me like I was learning all on my own from the book. He's an okay teacher, really nice. I probably would have preferred to take this class with a different professor.

I am currently a Psychology major that was really excited to take this course. Unfortunately, I did not really learn anything. I spent so much time typing up definitions, that I didn't have much interest or time to read the textbook once I was done. I had to miss two classed due to illness which cause me to receive a B-, I would've gotten an A.

There is a lot of book work, but he is straight forward about it. You know what the class is from day one - you learning the textbook with his assistance... Normally, I wouldn't like this but the textbook is very engaging... He is very smart and nice, overall a great prof... You should know going in however that he is VERY right-wing in politics.

To get an A you'll have to work hard, every week for HW 80-100 defin ,and then get 15 min open book test(if you are not prepared you'll be screwed).3 tests with 60 questions(closed book)This class requires a lot of hard work and time,if you are prepared to do so then take him. He will let you go 1.5h earlier

All about a check. He is a great example of what is wrong with education. Lectures are self-centered. All material comes from the book, and obviously has been reused numerous times. Concern for student knowledge and class content is minimal . Truly a waste of class time and money. Unfortunate to get a "teacher" like him for a class of this type.

Dr. Cohen was a great psychology professor and certainly knew his stuff. Homework consists of basically writing definitions for each section. All quizzes are open book except for a couple closed book tests and the final. He is quite funny, but still teaches you everything you need to know. Do the homework.

Dr Cohen was a tougher teacher but a very good one. 50-100 definitions are given to define each week (which is the hard part) but open note quizzes are given. You can make 2 open note quizzes up during the semester, too. He just talks a lot, but he can be interesting to listen to. Would definitely recommend.
