Smart but also seems like not much of a difficult prof. Would have preferred someone who wanted more from their students.

Wish there was another professor teaching this course. He is very knowledgeable, but his teaching style made class very unpleasant. The lectures are usually painfully awkward and he makes lots of inappropriate jokes. Would ramble on about topics unrelated to the lecture. He recently started providing reviews before exams, which were really helpful.

For being an early morning class he did a good job at keeping the class awake by being funny and making his lectures interesting. His test are hard so many sure you study the book and take notes. If you participate 4 times throughout the semester you can get 2% extra credit. He also gives a few easy assignments to help your grade!

The Best Professor after three years. the lectures are almost always hilarious and interesting. very test heavy and they are not the easiest. read the book and show up to class is your best bet. other than that homework is gimme points. +2% EC for participation. he is a great guy with real world experience and learns a lot of names. really cares

Really nice and funny guy but his tests suck due to the wording he uses. He also likes to ask about examples he gave in class and frequently uses "two/none/all of the above" questions.

I struggled with MKTG 3000 with Joel, but MKTG 4440 is completely different. It is a smaller class that is super laid back and fun. There is only one test all semester and it is only worth 20 points. Most of your grade is participation and it is all opinion based participation. I would recommend this class to anyone at Mizzou. It is very easy.

He makes lectures interactive with the student and uses really good examples to help you learn the material. His personality makes it fun to learn about marketing. He wrote the book that you buy, so there isn't any extra reading which is nice! His tests are hard, but if you go to lecture and study like you should, you will get an A!

90% of lectures are irrelevant, borderline-inappropriate rants, and 10% useful information. The majority of the grade is dominated by three tests; each chock-full of "two of the above", "three of the above", or "none of the above" choices, which measure luck, not marketing knowledge. Take this class elsewhere and transfer it. Poor, please retire.

Joel is always prepared for class. Although he wastes class time sometimes with his off topic funny rants, he honestly cares about the well-being of his students. The tests require specific lecture material but overall fairly easy.

Very hard tests- just the way things are worded and how it is expected you've memorized everything from the textbook and lectures and I mean EVERYTHING. Interesting guy and lectures, but very hard for a class that should be very straightforward.

Class is enjoyable and easy... except the tests... the tests are way off the wall and you will need to basically know all the lecture material and major topics from the book. Overall its a very enjoyable class. Be wary of the second test.

Joel Poor as a person is great. His lectures are really funny and he is a very approachable person who is willing to answer questions. The downside of his class is that the tests are very hard and you have to read and take really good notes to get a good grade. He will test on the smallest details and class examples so be sure to pay attention

Marketing 3000 is basically synonymous with Joel Poor. Not to give you any illusions it is a hard class. But Dr. Poor is hilarious and lectures actually aren't that bad. If you read the book, pay attention in class and do the homework then this class is definitely passable. He also gives extra credit for participating in class.

Horrible professor. Focuses on small details from class where he usually goes off on a tangent. Go to class. Exams are pretty much impossible so make sure you memorize the entire book in order to know the exact definitions. Don't take this class unless absolutely necessary. Would not recommend. Doesn't really teach the information that's on exams.

Joel was hilarious and kept class light. He was an entertaining professor and never bore you to death. But that doesn't mean to not take his class seriously. You really have to pay attention to the notes and attend class or you will not do well. His tests are VERY tricky and studying ahead of time is a must.

This class is not going to be easy, and anyone who has taken it will tell you the same thing. Tests are some of the most difficult ones I've taken, and he aims to trick you. Your best bet is to memorize everything -- he tests minute details rather than useful course concepts.

Nearly every class period he will go on a tangent that has nothing to do with the material, which he expects you to memorize for the test. Tests are impossible. Half of the questions are direct quotes from the book. Rode the curve to a C+.

Joel Poor was a great lecturer. He engaged the class consistently through examples. Beware, he uses these examples as test questions (ex. Based on what we discussed in class, which of the following companies would be a good example of a ____?). Attendance is not monitored, therefore not mandatory, but you should go as much as possible. Good guy.
